This is a good idea, and is a simple solution. I own a plasma myself and haven't noticed any issues yet (knock on wood) even after a couple hundred hours of playtime.
I guess you could just throw on Netflix or something for a while here and there when you aren't playing to help work those pixels a little, but the HUD opacity slider would be a welcome addition.
And to all those people saying plasma is worse than LED because of "brighter colors and darker blacks" blah blah blah. The refresh rate on plasmas kills LED tvs, even newer ones, and that is more important to me when playing fast paced games like shooters or sports games. I don't give a -blam!- how black the blacks are, as long as they don't look grey then I'll take the better refresh rate.
