#nerdoff Haha in all seriousness you do bring up excellent points, however I still feel inclined to put my money on the Star Wars universe if I had too Unfortunately the majority of star wars' extra dimensional beings aren't fully "explained" although we do catch glimpses of their powers and machinations through out the EU. Unfortunately due to fucking Disney, we most likely won't ever get a huge background on say the Celestials; who were known to have destroyed hyperspace routes throughout the edge of the galaxy for unknown reasons (although it is speculated that they did so to halt the advance of Mgnnal-Mgnall), scare extremely advanced races (such as the Sharu and Columni) to check their expansion and even revert to a primitive form of living to seek refuge from the notice of the Celestials on the case of the former. (It is also claimed that the Columni, while extremely advanced at one point, actually retreated from the stars after encountering the Celestials). They are also credited with creating massive objects such as centerpoint and sinkhole station to check the creature Abeloth, and created entire systems and clusters such as the Corellian and Vultar systems, the Hapes cluster, the Kathol Rift, and possible the Maw black hole cluster. They're also credited with potentially seeding the inner core with life other than just humanity. The Ones are also incredibly powerful force users said to be related to the Celestials in some way, although the extent of that relation is never fully explored. The Celestials are pretty formidable and mysterious, but again Fuck Disney, they ruined so much of the EU:-/
also I hadn't heard much about the precursors or their abilities before this thread, do you have a source from the Halo EU that fleshes out their race? It sounds extremely interesting
I also find it interesting how both these advanced races (Precursor and Celestial) were both usurped in some way by those they created/nurtured to an advanced state (forerunners and Rakata) and disappeared from the galaxy at large.

  • To give some background on why the Precursors disappeared... The Forerunners were one of their many creations; they created life for fun. Once they decided it was time to try out another one of their creations, the humans, the forerunners opposed their own creators. Awed by the forerunner's stubbornness and destructive tendencies the Precursors decided to not hold them back, so they could watch chaos enfold. Basically after that, the last one of the Precursors decided, to give a damn, became the Flood (because why the -blam!- not become an infectious hivemind space parasite for fun?) and curbstomped all of the Forerunners by himself and humiliated them as well made them break all their philosophies during that. And I should mention that the Precursors literally cheat death; they are simply a higher instance that can come back to life as anything. In their past they deliberately killed themselves just to try out another form.

That's actually even more interesting due to the fact that precursors also did something similar to your hyperspace scenario- they were capable of forcing fleets outside of slip space, among other things, and though they certainly didn't make anybody retreat from the stars, they did torture space faring civilization for quite a awhile. I think it's clear that there's more inspiration from SW inside halo than I originally thought. Disregarding this, the Disney situation does suck. Did they say it was outright never going to be touched again, or did they just kinda shove it off to the side to shift focus? I can't see why they'd completely remove something as interesting as the celestials when you describe them the way you do.

  • Disney declared almost all of the EU (comics and books) as no longer canon, so now it's only the movies and the two shows that have been out recently in Disney XD and Cartoon Network. This was to give the writers more "creative control." While they said some characters and stories MAY find their way into the new canon, it's hard to imagine that characters and races like this would be able to find a new place given how undeveloped they are. However some people have said that only post ROTJ EU was declared uncanon while others are saying all of it is, it really sucks :-/

  • Except for the fact there is an explanation for the disappearance of the Precursors and Forerunners.

  • True, which is another reason why I hate Disney. We never know why the Celestials disappeared, only that they just left after their war with the infinite empire. At least KOTOR gave some background on how the Infinite empire collapsed though. Still it'd have been nice to know more about the Celestials :-/
