Suggestion: Workbench/Forge

This post is about a way to make each guardian more unique, giving us more options in the end game armor/weapon selection. Not long a go I decided to start my second character, the Titan, and I noticed something odd: the lower level armors look way cooler than the high level armor. However, since the level goes up so fast we end up not really using them for long and its a shame. Same thing happens to the weapons. I guess this is in a way, a consequence of the original system you built that the weapons would grow with the characther instead of having to find new guns every two or three levels like we have now. The problem with this system, which we start to see lots of player complaining, is that everyone looks a like. So I was talking with a friend and we devised a system that builds on the current grinding for loot system, but that could make grinding more interesting and would work for both armor and weapons. Workbench So, what is the Workbench? The Workbench is a place/NPC in the Tower that would allow us to dismantle our loot but that instead of us just getting the basic materials for the armor or the weapon parts we would also be able to pick another trait of the weapon for example. Forging our Destiny How would this work? Frame We start by choosing our favorite frame. By choosing the frame we discard all other perks the weapon may have but keep the basic stats (Damage type, ROF, Range, etc...) Perks Then we start by building the gun's perks. For this part we need to find other weapons that have the perks we need ( lens types, counter balance, etc), as we find a weapon with this perks we dismantle it and keep the perk we selected. Using the resource system and experience we add it to the frame we want. We do this untill we have a fully developed weapon. Upgrading Weapons/Armor Like now, upgrading a weapon/Armor would require experience and resources, when we gain enough experience in one slot we can then add a perk to that slot and activate it. Basic weapons can be dismantled for their frame, while higher rarity weapons can be dismantled for their weapon parts, frames and perks. But we can only keep up to a combination of two of those: Weapon parts + Frame or Weapon Parts + 1 Perk. The Perk tree we currently have would stay the same: Common Weapon: Damage Type - Crosshair (3x) - Perk - Damage Upgrade Rare Weapon: Damage Type - Crosshair (3x) - Perk - Damage Upgrade - Perk (2x) - Damage Upgrade Legendary Weapon: .... With enough resources and reputation we could even forge a Common Weapon to Rare Status and upwards. However the costs would be much higher. Reputation This Workbench would have a NPC there with whom we gain reputation when we dismantle weapons or even perform some bounties for him, preferably a combination of the two as a requirement since loot is easy to get/buy. Reputation effects As we gain reputation the dismantling process will increase its efficiency, wielding more resources and eventually allowing the upgrade of Common to Rare , Rare to Legendary and maybe even Legendary to a new status called Unique. This would be similar to Exotics in ammount of perks, but would be unique because it was OUR weapon or OUR armor. Even allowing us to give it a nickname. Vanity Slot The last thing missing would be allowing the customization of the color of the weapons. To do this we could forge a Vanity Slot where we would place a weapon shader. To forge this slots we would need to dismantle X shaders to get a special part to put in the weapon/armor making it furher Unique. Special Consideration for Armor The problem is that armor has a few more effects than weapons like the traits for Intellect, Strenght, Discipline and Light. By using the Workbench/Forge we would use the same system as described above: - Select Frame; - Select Perks (more Auto Rifle ammo, melee speed, etc..) - Forge the armor - Add Traits The four traits above could either increase with our level or be harvested from other pieces up to a cap, it seems that right now we can have a total of 470 points between Intelligence, Discipline and Strenght. To reach level 30 we would still need to complete the raid and we would then either use it as a frame and change some of the perks or simply harvest its light and the Raid attribute. Well, this my feedback. Thank you for Reading.

 • I am also thinking that the forging system could be created with some sort of "recipe" that enforces restrictions on which traits can be applied together, to prevent abuse by players who found a way to forge "super items". Go ahead and let Bungie decide what traits they are going to allow together, or on a single item, to keep their "leveling" algorithm happy.
