Well sir I found the problem with your Burn in... Its an outdated plasma screen that you had to have shortly after they were released, therefore paying too damn much and getting the now obsolete tv style.
I used to sell T.V.s right after plasmas were released, a few simple facts:
All plasma tvs have the capacity for burn in, hell we had a few demo units that had a dvd menu burned in.
95% of plasma screens have a close viewing angle like 120 degress and have poor in light performance.
Plasma screens with typical usage need a "recharge" roughly every 5 years, basically an oil change for the plasma, used to cost 1000$ not sure about now. But otherwise you were subject to picture fade and slow response time.
Major T.V. manufacturers moved to L.C.D. then L.C.D. as they proved more versitile in high and low light, cheaper to produce and sell, therfore easier to move, and be longer lasting without maintainence. In fact many times the motherboard fails before the screen.
TL; DR: Plasmas suck and are outdated, read above for why.

You're one of the least knowledgeable T.V sales reps I've came across. You're talking 10 years ago man. You're both under educated and outdated on your information. I'm not hear to increase your IQ, so please look up the VT60 line. Directly contrasting everything you said, it has a higher viewing angle than ANY LCD ever made, black levels the darkest ever recorded on anything besides a 2015 OLED, and a lifespan of 50 years with only a 8% degradation in black levels, which is far, far less than LCDs. Beyond that, yes plasmas lack in bright room performance, but by bright, I mean mid-day sun with every window open. Please educate yourself, technology changes fast, Moores law after all.

I do admit the information I used was very outdated and that I am not current, however plasmas have been mostly phased out for a reason. Edit: I was a rep years ago so I haven't exactly been up to date. It the time and for my products I was selling I was one of the most knowledgeable amongst my coworkers.

Unfortunately that quality comes at the risk of image retention or even burn-in. It's a tough trade-off to make. As for their discontinuance, it's cheaper for the vendors to make LCD or LED units. That quality is lost does much matter to most of the folks buying TVs. For folks that know better it's an unfortunate passing of an era. Meanwhile it'd be trivial to allow for HUD transparency options.
