Actually my 2012 VT60 was on its lowest settings at first. I know an extensive amount about televisions, and an an elder member on forums like AVS, and CNET. I prepped to TV for 200 hours before even gaming, and that was with BF4, which I set the HUD opacity to a very translucent level and never had an issue. With surely over 1500 hours on my set now you'd expect it to be near burn-in proof. Somehow someway the Destiny HUD is bright and bold enough to do some damage. Again, I feel it's an easy, and simple fix to add an opacity slider. It can only benefit people.
