Caliber is a description of the bullets width, not the length. 12.7mm is the equivalent of 50 cal so the M6D is a 50 cal.
Also, the AR isn't necessarily more powerful, as muzzle velocity needs to be taken into account. As it stands the AR fires the exact same round as some modern assault weapons. It's basically just an AK-47. But with a shorter canon effective range, I believe.

AK-47 fires 7.62x39mm, not 7.62x51mm

It's about equivalent, in that the round caliber size is the same (that's a .30 caliber round). The only difference is the casing, which is the part that isn't fired. It has an identical ROF, but the AR had approximately 50 meters less effective range, even though the muzzle velocity of the MA5C is almost 200 m/s higher, somehow. It's a futuristic AK-47 overall, with some slight stat differences.
