I don't think there's a single player who thinks Bad Ju Ju is fine the way it is. But simply saying '' it needs a buff' is the tip of an iceberg. The way the weapon works with it's various perks, it's hard to know exactly HOW to buff it. I'm awful at explaining this, so I suggest watching the relevant half of Datto's video concerning Thorn and Bad Ju Ju. He explains more clearly how the weapon's perks make buffing it's damage a little complicated

Try around 4:45.
However, as the title of this thread suggests, I think if Bad Ju Ju were to also gain elemental damage then it might have more use. Primary weapons that deal elemental damage are both rare and , in my opinion, very useful. A trio of examples include the Vault of Glass Auto Rifle 'Atheon's Epilogue' , which deals void damage , the Vault of Glass Hand cannon 'Fatebringer' which deals arc damage and the exotic scout rifle 'Fate of all fools' , which deals solar damage.
The weapon's aesthetics and story make void damage the most appropriate. But I'd be happy with either of the 3 damage types being added
I'm still saying that the damage/ammo somehow needs reworking, and/or maybe even an overhaul of the entire research tree for the weapon. But I think adding element damage might make this weapon a slightly more viable choice in certain situations.
Thanks for reading :)

more damage is all it needs, make it hit harder than read death.

I think it's as simple as more rounds in the clip with more rounds in the actual burst, added in with more impact. Adding elemental damage to this weapon would definitely make it worth using on some things but with the current state it's in I don't feel even that would make it a viable weapon. Just my opinion.
