What games that came out recently, or relatively recently actually SUCCEEDED in living up to the hype that was built up before release?

The first game that comes to mind is GTA V, merely because of how massive a technical achievement it was.

Monster hunter 4 ultimate. And Xenoblade chronicles 3d. I don't know why or how nintendo does it but they got capcom a company most people are sour about because of Streetfighter and resident evil. To make an amazing gem known as mh4u for the 3ds. And Xenoblade. Is just. The best rpg I have ever played. I missed out on the original wii release so this is my first time playing it. On valek mountain right now( the snow area) Heropon riki> any other rpg character you can imagine.
