No, I think the answer is who you play with decides. The game is a venue to have a rock solid platform to play with my friends. For the first time for me story is secondary, repetitive gameplay just allows us to perfect what we are doing, the raid lets us show off what we have learned, my favorite in game character are my squad mates. I see bungies goal pretty clearly, and I think they are onto something solid here. In the last month destiny has only been taken out twice because it was a slow night for my clan. I don't even want to buy cod yet because I just want it's storyline and I hear it's not worth full price.
The game is about your team,it's about exploration rolling either 3 or 6 deep, it's about arguing key points in lore, or making fun of your ghost while you pop 6 dregs in a row airborne.
Are there problems, yes, the rng occasionally leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but at the same time it removes competing for gear from your group allowing you to congrat the other guy on his drop.
Doing the raid isn't not about the cool loot, it's about doing the raid. A strike is about finding that best weapon and competing with your squad for kills.
If there is one thing I do want from this game currently is for some kind of custom game that allows clan vs clan matches. because I would love for my group to compete in a tourney top see where we rank.
