The thing that's annoying is because it's addictive in a cheap way. The incentive is just trying to keep playing either to get the resources needed to level up gear/weapons, or to try to get lucky and find new weapons or drops. Even back in the old days of halo 2 we all new obtaining a moon without cheating was impossible, yet we continued to play anyway simply because it was fun. I don't continue to play because it's fun, I continue to play because i am addicted to the randomness of the drops and every time I hope to get something I haven't gotten already. That's exactly what it is, an addiction. It's not fun for the sake of fun. They are simply playing off humanity's flaw of easy addiction to essentially what is gambling. If you were rewarded all the gear you needed on the first run through would you continue to play the game? No because then it is pointless. Even in cod you continue to play after you max out your level because it is more fun than what they made this game out to be. Seriously the latest episode of south park is a perfect application of what bungie did to us with this game, except their micropurchases are simply map packs for the next 10 years.
