Use destinypublicevents to complete a public event as 3 star, switch to second character, rinse repeat. Up to 6 ascendants a day with two chars.

I do the daily every day and public events all the time... That's why I have over 50 energy. Only time I get shards is from legendary gear and about half the time from the raid
