I abandoned my affinity for factions. For me, there was no real incentive to mess with them. Vanguard bounties and Crucible build rep for them, but only crucible marks can be spent. Even at that there's no real exclusivity to be found there. They also seen like a vestigial appendage, like the thumb nail on a dog's front paw. What's the real purpose?
Here's an idea. Take it or leave it.
Create a moon that acts as THE place for faction purchases.
Give the factions something people actually want.
Allow control of the area to be held only by one faction at a time. Then allow control to be fought over and won every couple of hours. Something like Control.
Gear up your class item to represent, and take control.
Example : Dead Orbit
Loot : Shader for 5 kill streak, 10 kill streak, and total domination (control of all zones the entire time). Purchased with Crucible marks
Purchase of 1 package per control period consisting of a random assortment of helium, engrams, and a telemetry.
Gear specific to Dead Orbit, one piece (preferably helm or arms as they are the key visual pieces) on par with Raid gear - or whatever the equivalent of level 30 gear would be. Purchased with 50 ancient coins.
Change the color of the Nightfall buff to reflect the faction that won, and whether you were part of the winning team.
Award 1 care package per day from the faction that you were on that won. Package can consist of Motes of Light, Ancient Coins, upgrade materials, legendary upgrade materials, upgrade materials faction-specific.
Make the faction armor piece obtained require upgrade material won from these events to upgrade. Example: "infused helium cores" or "enhanced helium filaments"
This is an example, I'm curious to see I'd anyone else had reward or vendor item ideas that they think would give a higher reward and offer a better incentive than what currently exists to pair with this event.
+ alternate form of battling it out could involve daily control, and base it on class item representation and statistics gained from Iron Banner.
Ideas? Like? Dislike?
Sip some hateraide and lemme know what you think.
