Seperation of church and state. Marriage is a religious ceremony and you can't force religions to accept people under the first amendment. Call it a civil union which is the same thing but not religious.
Marriage is a religious ceremony
No it isn't. Nonreligious people get married all the time...
you can't force religions to accept people under the first amendment
And I'm not saying they need to. Equal treatment under the law is what we're talking about. Churches are private organizations that can deny a marriage service to anyone.

No, they get civil unions or (lip-service)convert .Right. Give em benefits and all but all Justice of the Peace"weddings" get called civil unions for all people.
-
But why? If they get all the same things, why should they have to call it something else?
-
Marraige=Religion Civil Union=Secular. Simple and applies to all, not a specific group.
-
Why not just let everyone get married? If we adopt your model, what happens if someone converts religions, or stops being religious? Does their marriage status change?
-
You just trying to be ridiculous, now. As a legal status, no.

No answer? Gotcha.
