An area map.
As I wander the beautiful worlds the Dev team has created, every so often i still get lost. I mean, I know the lay of the land pretty well, but sometimes I find a new path to somewhere, and when I emerge from whatever Hive-infested hole I just got done clearing out, I find myself wondering "exactly where did I emerge?".
My solution (and I've seen it suggested somewhere before), is for an in-game area map.
The commands when you bring up the Ghost Menu screen in the game are as follows:
Hold X: Summon sparrow
Hold Y: Go to Orbit/Abandon Objective/Leave Fireteam
And that's it. there's so much potential for this screen to help players out.
My ideas:
Tap A: Bring up Area Map. This would show basically the same map you see from orbit, but would have a small indicator as to a Guardian's current position on the planet he/she is currently exploring/patrolling.
Hold A: Reputation Screen/Advisors. Like you can view your reputation with the various Factions and see the progress on bounties, this screen would bring all of those into neatly organized lists to be able to track your Guardian's objectives on the fly while planet-side.
And there's tons of other potential for additional items as well.
There's the LB/RB buttons that currently have no use while in the Ghost map.
There's the diagonal buttons on the D-pad that could be used as Weapon/Armor/Consumable hot-keys.
And whether you Tap the button or Hold the button could lead to even more options to utilize various button functions and aids to players in the game.
My logic is this: Our Ghost's are supposed to be (by the story and lore implemented in the game), our constant companions and advisers. It wouldn't be any kind of stretch to have the Ghost's assisting us in these additional roles as well as their normal door-hacking functions (lol). It is (in a way) already their job, and this would help increase the immersion value of your worlds.
But more than anything on this list, an area map would (I would think) be very well accepted by pretty much everybody.
Please pass this along to the Dev team, DeeJ.
Community; please comment with your thoughts/additions to this list of possible additions and uses of the available buttons.

It's been considered many times. I was in a meeting last week where it was brought up again. Who knows what the future holds.
-
While the map would be good, they have bigger fish to fry, than putting an in-game map for the same areas.
-
Using consumables on the fly would be very helping. Very good idea.
-
Wait, an in-game map with geolocation functionality? That's just cray, cray! What do you think this is, 1999? Do you know how much processing power and memory that would consume? This game takes place in the future but we aren't really IN the future where things like interactive maps and hand held computers are possible. Silly OP. Because if that technology actually existed and had, say, been in every game over the previous 20 years, then I'm SURE they would have included it in the game. It would make no sense not to. So, clearly the technology doesn't exist.

You get lost in these little maps with all the invisible walls and waypoints and dozens of times you've played the same missions over and over ? .........wow

Maybe they'll pay some attention to questions that people are actually asking.

A map would almost be pointless at this point...... It would just make it more obvious how linear the maps are. What would be helpful is making our ghosts better. When you pull out your ghost on patrol, it displays mission nodes and sometimes points you in the direction of one of the next areas. It should tell you where the paths to all joining areas are and label then with the areas name. Problem solved. Oh and maybe It woulda be cool if everything wasnt in Russian so they could actually utilize signs and whatnot to point out areas or give context to the buildings you enter. Such a mysterious world we travel in destiny Very closed off. Kill walls everywhere. No context for anything.

Bump for the Devs. Look at this thread, Devs. Good ideas are alive and well in here! :)

-
Bumpity bump! Good to see some actual ideas in the Feedback thread and not just bashing. Keep up the good work

Sounds like a good idea bro
-
These are great ideas! Glad to see this blowing up because I'd love to see these implemented.
-
The ghost could easily project a semi-transparent map in front of you...would work really well with the mechanics and aesthetics of the game Good suggestion!
-
This is actually a very good idea and to boot, it sounds very do-able.
-
Fantastic Ideas. I am more excited about being able to see your progress in faction ranks and what not than the map, but the map would also be awesome.
-
Why would you need an area map? The planets are so little and linear there would be no point.

Edited by Tinmann77: 11/8/2014 5:44:01 PMSorry you'll never see this....

but the maps are small lol
-
Good news for you, guardian. I heard from a little bird the words, "treasure map"...

I'm for the map, but I would personally like to see it on a Smart Glass app. showing positions of not only the player, but other fire team members as well. It could even allow an addition link up with voice for a "team commander" working like the Battlefield command map (without the air strikes....or maybe.....) so that someone could co-ordinate a fireteam for bigger events.... Or Just a map would do.....
