Q: When it comes to strikes, you're a _______.
But I'm "both". There is no option for me!
Assume you have all the time in the world and you're soloing if you're "in the middle or both." This will help you identify what you really PREFER. Certainly, when faced with a time crunch but really want to play, we'll change out tactics from our true desires. However, with unlimited time, we'd be more likely to do what we WANT.
Edit: there is no "Both" option. I want you to pick a side and defend it. Certainly there are a ton of us (myself included) that play to the rest of the group. But base your decision on soloing. Don't take the middle ground. That's too easy :P
Why there is no RIGHT answer:
I'd recommend the book Switch by Chip and Dan Heath.
Arguing logic doesn't work. You have to motivate the emotional side of an individual to make it really work (in conjunction with logic).
Your logic is sound, but you haven't targeted the reason people walk/shoot (completionist) every strike. Some people are just plain having fun.
If you could show someone how much more fun it is to run vice walk, you'd swing the community. Unfortunately, that must be felt and experienced. The written word (here) will most likely only apply to logic (unless you're an incredible writer). Logic is just not a strong enough element to do it alone.
Concerning the term: "Efficient" and why it's not an option on my poll.
Most runners are running because of time efficiency. That's probably the right title depending on your operational definition of efficient. One size does not fit all here.
"Efficient" is defined by the measurement:
Efficient completionists aren't worried about time, but kills instead... Not skipping any enemies. 100% encountered enemies die at their hands.
Efficient runners are looking for personal records on strike TIME completion. "Gotta shave 30 seconds off. Skip the stupid colossus and just run by it."
It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Use this weeks Weekly Heroic as an example.
After you activate the console in the public area by the interceptors, do you:
A) Fight every enemy in the first big interior chamber and then continue on, also killing every enemy in front of the bosses siege tank (public area)? Efficient mob killer = completionist.
Or
B) Run and jump past those guys to get to the lieutenant fight (darkness zone), then run and jump to boss area? Efficient TIME completion = runner.
Certainly there are those that want to split hairs and kill stuff while they're running through, but killing level 28 cabal majors and ultras takes some freaking time. If you're stopping to down all those dudes you're a completionists.
THIS POLL IS TO INCREASE AWARENESS
This is the problem:
People fall into 2 real categories. You either want the end of strike rewards only and time is of the essence, or you want to take the scenic route and kill everything on the way.
Neither of these practices is bad!!!! Your brain and play style dictate what group you fall into. This does not mean the other group is wrong!
They're just different. Understand this and stop taking it personally.
Idling is straight garbage. I don't care about the no-death strike bounties. Participate or get reported. Standing around farming materials and trash mobs also counts as idling no matter how you try to explain it.
So, which group to you fall into?
I want this post to stick so everyone understands that there are 2 different schools of thought here and you should try to understand the majority.
If 2 people sparrow off, they're runners. If you're a completionist, just quit, or speed ahead, help, and try your luck with a different group.
If you sparrow up and the others walk towards the first mob, they obviously want to kill stuff. Quit, or hop off the sparrow and help.
Of course no one is holding a gun to your head to be a team player, but team playing requires a "majority rules" mentality. Being the only runner makes you look like a jack ass. Sure, you soloed the boss. But your other 2 "team" members were left behind. It's not good etiquette.
I say follow the crowd vice throwing a tantrum that someone isn't playing "your" way. Especially if you're the only one that wants to do it that way.
Check left. Check right. Play as a team, OR DONT USE RANDOM MATCHMAKING AND GET MAD WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG!
I'm a runner. Ran Sepkis Prime 25 times for Bad Juju, but slowed down when my team mates wanted to.
Cheers guys. I did this in fun, but I hope it sticks. There are way too many hate threads about this.

What if you do both? Most of the time when I do the tiger playlist, I tend to go with the flow. If people run through it, so will I. When I'm striking with my friends, we tend to destroy everything.
-
I try to kill everything as fast as possible. But I don't need to kill every thing. If it's in my way, it dies. If I have to hunt it down, or alter course to get to it and it's not a requirement of the Strike, I move on. I voted Runner, but more because I try to get things done quickly, not that I just dust my mates. If I see guys lagging behind, I'll wait for them, or kill enemies between us to help them get to me. Mostly, I find that other Guardians behave the same way. Kill it, kill it fast, get moving to the next bit as quickly as possible.
-
It's a strike, meant to kill things. KILL THINGS. Simple. Don't wuss out and run away/ahead. You help no one, and piss everyone off. :/
-
I'm a runner because you get exotics from mission rewards, not drops. I've gotten 3 exotics from Tiger Strike rewards. When was the last time a legendary engram (do those even drop anymore?) turned into an exotic for you?
-
Get to the end, get it done. There are better places to just farm mobs for engram drops.
-
I run ahead until I get into the strike. I don't kill mobs on the way to my first darkness zone, from there I murder everything in sight.
-
Only run strikes when a bounty requires me to. So the faster the better for me, but if people wanna hang back and kill mobs, I don't mind. Doesn't affect my game all that much.
-
Depends on who I get matched with. 90% of the time their is at least one afk/idle the entire time & the other just stands still till I start moving. Then they just keep going on so I go with them. I prefer to kill evrything
-
The sooner I get the reward, the sooner I'm "complete" with the game
-
I'm in between, I adapt to the other players. If we start off the strike and the other 2 teammates jump on their sparrows and speed off, then I do the same and we finish it quick. If they decide they want to kill trash mobs for a chance at engram drops, then I stay and kill trash mobs with them. Normally I like to clear mobs for better drop chance, but honestly I'm good either way and if the team just wants to get the strike done as quickly as possible than I'm all for that to. Its just a video game...go with the flow.
-
I tend to pace myself according to the group. If I have two runners I will just run with them. If I have two guys who are chilling and killing I will join in. If I have one of each, my tendency is to hang with the guy at the back and help him out - he may be new, or he might just like shooting stuff. I like shooting stuff too. In that situation the runner can solo the boss, sit and sulk, or just leave.
-
This post is encouraging an annoying and dumb playstyle. There is literally no reason to kill every mob in the strike. (Unless you've never done the strike before and want to see the story. But SPOILER ALERT: there is no story.) "But I don't wanna miss a legendary drop!"... It's RNG... The 50 mobs you waste time killing have the same drop chance as the 10 mobs I kill in 5 strikes. The gear is at the end. The xp bonus is at the end. If you're doing a # to kill bounty just do multiple strikes. It'll take almost the same amount of time and you've increased your gear drop chances. There is no excuse for everyone not running. No one can dispute this logically, only with "but I like to kill everything, it's my playstyle. I hate these runners." Get over yourself. You're either 12 or you haven't played the game long enough to know what it is, a grind. Now maximize it and get to running.
-
I only kill mobs when lvl up guns and gear other than that I running
-
I do what I want, and I don't even know the people I'm matched with to care what they think. That's the risk that comes with matchmaking. You want to make sure you're playing with like-minded people? Queue up & play with people you know. Otherwise, play the game.
-
Completionist. Having said that, if in a part of runners I will follow suit.
-
Just did daily. Killed random dreg GASP leveled up my Atheons Epilogue. Then GASP got legendary engram at the end. COMPLETIONIST FTW
-
Honestly? Play however you want to play. I don't think theres a right or wrong to this debate.
-
Not enough strikes. Try to max ur vanguard coins and end up doing the same strike over and over. It's bad enough the enimes spawn at the same spot every time. So for me i would rather run and get on to the next one.
-
I do strikes when I don't want to play and just watch tv on my computer instead. Then I laugh when they kill themselves thinking I'm trying not to die and I just don't give a damn cause the strikes are boring as hell. That being said I hope the other two players are runners so that I can collect my reward without having to do anything faster. You guys can hate all you want but I'll just keep saying its efficient and don't report me "my controller ran out of batteries and I had to run to CVS"

Edited by JTtheLoneWOOF: 11/5/2014 8:48:47 PMActually it is extremely variable for most players.
-
After reading this
Being the only runner makes you look like a jack ass. Sure, you soloed the boss. But your other 2 "team" members were left behind. It's not good etiquette.
I feel like an asshole when I was going after the bounty for 25 strike completions. In my defense, I had 3 hours left till Xur left for the weekend.
-
I like to kill everything but if everyone is rushing ahead I try and catch up.
-
I personally enjoy shooting every last alien. Even if I've done it twenty times before, I'm not in any rush to go back to orbit. The grind for loot and bounties are unimportant to me if I'm not having fun. I always appreciate when players stop rushing ahead and play the game with me (and I try to display that appreciation with waves and dancing). If not that's fine too, I usually don't take too long and catch up to where ever they are.
-
Could you actually put an option to vote both? Sometimes I book it to the end if I'm short on time or grinding for a bounty, sometimes I kill everything I see when I'm in the mood. I'd say about a 50/50 for me
-
I'd say I'm a runner but I do try to go with the flow. If my team mates are killing then Im right there with them but I like to complete strikes as fast as possible.
-
Typically I'm a completionist, but I've fought Valus 10 times in a row, I'm rather done taking my time with it...
