Bungie's Rhetoric

In Ronguat's post defending Bungie's decision making so far, he says we need to exercise acceptance. I disagree... So we should just hope they know what they are doing? If we treated our politicians the same way (some do) then they would be doing whatever is their best interests, not ours. The reason I make this analogy is bungie as of late has operated with the same transparency and demeanor as the Obama administration. The trust I have for any company is that their main goal is to make money, and actibungie is no exclusion. Exercise standards. Definition of Rhetoric (off of dictionary.com) noun 1. (in writing or speech) the undue use of exaggeration or display; bombast. 2. the art or science of all specialized literary uses of language in prose or verse, including the figures of speech. 3. the study of the effective use of language. 4. the ability to use language effectively. 5. the art of prose in general as opposed to verse. 6. the art of making persuasive speeches; oratory. 7. (in classical oratory) the art of influencing the thought and conduct of an audience. Seriously, the rhetoric that bungie has spun is ridiculous: ---No trading, "We want you to earn your gear & have a story for every piece" translates to "If we had trading, everyone could be level 30 in two to three weeks. If we want to stretch the limited content we have over the longest timeline, we need to have them farm lotto style for their gear." ---No matchmaking for raids/weekly & nightfall, "We encourage you to play with your friends or venture around the game and make new friends so you can have a consistent team to play with." translates to "We save a lot of money/work by incorporating the built in friend system for the PS/Xbox. Also the system of finding/adding & joining new friends takes about ten minutes just get two people to party. This additional latency will further increase the timeline of our limited game." ---Tweaking Exotics, "We promised to make all of your Exotics worth the price of ownership, and you should expect to hear more about how they’ll continue to be prized possessions in the short term future. Stay tuned! Translates to "This is the same answer we've given them update after update. Out of the complaints we're mildly touching on, this one we could give two shits about. But to let the player base know their concerns are heard, we'll convey something to the extent 'your call is appreciated.'" You say exercise acceptance, but for all the hiccups this game has held, I am solidified in my mindset of never buying another game with DLC. I say exercise standards and don't settle for less. I want a full game, & not just accept the shitty standards the DLC trend has set. South Park's stick of truth rpg had more variety for a game length of 14 hours max. This game technically has 4 -blam!-ing maps for pve. Reusing maps is what what killed the dragon age franchise for me. What good comes from complaining about it here? I get to vent, share my thoughts with others like minded, leave a memo for bungie to read (unlikely) & cause I can. Sure, destiny has a timeline of release and I'm sure you'll have to pay for each installment. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up spending 200$ on one game before the sequel is released. Those who bought the digital guardian edition are already at 90$. I did the WoW mmo train for 5 years & for all the fun I had, I wish I could get my time & money back. Reskinning bosses & recycling mechanics dulls a game like a sword slapping a metal pole. If you're going to continue to pay for an 'evolving' game that really only refinishes the original product, then that's on you.
