Destiny is console exclusive, which means almost all players play on a television, not a monitor. Many of these players play on plasma screens, millions in fact. The average play session of Destiny is logged by Bungie at 4 hours. I fall around that mark, and that's about all I've used my TV for lately, as I'm sure is the same for many players.
This leads to a huge problem, one that may have already permanently damaged my near $3K TV, the HUD is burnt into my display.
I'm a very proud owner of the "65in Panasonic VT60, and I paid a very pretty penny for it. Millions of others also playDestiny on plasmas, and the fact is no matter how "worn in" a plasma is, it is still prone to burn-in or image retention.
Either can occur after a static image is left on the screen for an extended period of time, like say, playing Destiny for a few hours a day, with no other content appearing on the TV in between.
From my recent average playtime, I now have a retained image of the bottom left HUD area burnt in my display; super bar, all 3 weapon slots, among blur where ammo is counted and so on.
I left my TV wiping for 12 hours, and the image is still there.
(Update 11/19) My TV has been wiping for almost 24 hours, and still has the HUD clearly burned in.
(Update 11/20) My TV has been wiping for almost 48 hours straight. The HUD is still there, but instead of a dark gray shadow, it seems to be a tinge of pink. This is a bad sign)
There is a simple solution for preventing this, and still being able to enjoy long play sessions. Battlefield 4 got this perfect right off the bat, they added the option to adjust HUD opacity in the video options. This completely stomped the possibility for image retention, and even after hundreds of hours of gameplay I never had a problem.
For those who don't know, this option would make it possible to have your HUD slightly see-through so the pixels are being stimulated.
This is a very big deal, and has the potential to ruin many plasmas, only from playing Destiny for an average play session, even with days in between.
BUNGIE PLEASE, add a simple HUD opacity slider and put all your plasma owners at ease.
Love, every Destiny player with a plasma.

Well written. Most of the time I play on a projector, but when I'm not I'm on a 32 inch LED. I can't say I've seen any after images.
-
I use a BenQ monitor
-
My friend also has the same problem. He sat at the loot cave for 3 days straight, and now his TV has the lootcave burnt into it :|
-
That seriously sucks.

You should post this to the Feedback & Help sections.

Lawl get a led tv
-
I guess I have my girlfriend to thank for always watching movies on netflix while I'm not playing lol.
-
This is a good idea, and is a simple solution. I own a plasma myself and haven't noticed any issues yet (knock on wood) even after a couple hundred hours of playtime. I guess you could just throw on Netflix or something for a while here and there when you aren't playing to help work those pixels a little, but the HUD opacity slider would be a welcome addition. And to all those people saying plasma is worse than LED because of "brighter colors and darker blacks" blah blah blah. The refresh rate on plasmas kills LED tvs, even newer ones, and that is more important to me when playing fast paced games like shooters or sports games. I don't give a -blam!- how black the blacks are, as long as they don't look grey then I'll take the better refresh rate.

I still have Salvador's action skill icon and health and shield bar from BL2 visible in the lower left of my screen. However my plasma TV is getting old, and I want to replace it in a year or two anyway. It isn't visible when watching other things for the most part, but if there is a white loading screen or a television show or commercial with a white background, there it is. I will just upgrade to an LED internet capable television when I finally get sick of seeing it.

Not their fault your tv sucks. Get a different one.
-
I game a lot and have had two plasma TVs and never had screen burn last more than a day. You just have to tweak your settings. Using cooler colors helps. Game mode helps for those that don't know how to do the fine tuning aspects. You can google your model number and find the best settings for gaming (regardless of screen burn I recommend doing this anyways for the best possible picture quality).

I'm sorry but at my best buy location you can get a 65" Samsung led for cheaper than that, so unless it was years ago you got scammed on that tv.
-
Most if not all tv has a game mode setting to prevent that so I'm guessing u never had that selected
-
LOL! Plasma, get with the times scrub
-
Why did you party 3k for a plasma? And most console games are gonna have that issue, so...
-
Why in God's name buy a plasma TV?
-
Deej did an interview with Guardian radio network a few weeks ago they know its a issue and they are trying to think of a good solution for it
-
Had the same thing happen to mine lol, except it was with mass effect 3s HUD. So I have since made the plasma be the everyday usage and minor gameplay tv lol. I now use our LED as my main gaming tv. Eventually I'll replace the plasma, but for now it's good.
-
Plasmas are shit lol over hyped crap I swore by plasmas for so long, but my 8000 dollar led has better picture and better contrast. Maybe you should buy a better tv?
-
Yeah, i play on a 6 yr old 50" lg plasma, and its messed up in places, but i knew it wouldnt last forever. I don't really get much burn in, just lots of red spots in the corners especially when its cold in the room. Only notice it when the screen is black. Never notice at all when gaming... Watching tv
-
Lol you and anyone else that has a plasma knew the risk when you bought a plasma.
-
