Momentarely the only way to get a good level is getting legendary or exotic gear. The Legendary gear is almost always purchased threw the various vendors at the tower. What lacking is their visual distinction from each other, they all look alike or verry similiar. Sometimes you just take the one that has the best stats even though your Blue or Green helmet has the looks you want to wear.
Introducing the "Wardrobe system"
This is not entirly my idea since I seen it in Guild Wars 2, but I really think Destiny could benefit from this.
The wardrobe system lets you take an armor piece that you equiped,, but not the look that you want it to have. and turn that around in the look you do want!
Here is how it go's, you get a piece of armor White, Green, Blue or Purple, you equipt it, and the look of that armor piece gets put into the "Wardrobe"
The look of of the armor piece is saved and later can be brought back at a certain vendor / spot in the tower (Perhaps call it "The Armory"). At this place you can see all the designs you've collected and choose a design which you would like on the armor you're currenly wearing. For a mote of light, secret coin, or glimmer, thats up to Bungie. This way you can have the look of an armor piece that is White, Green, Blue or Purple, but with the stats of your current armor piece that you are using.
This way you'll get to see way more different looking Guardians and have way more fun customizing your own guardian, and become legend.
Sincerly,
Mandain

So were definitly getting attention so thank you for that guys, now it's up to Bungie to do something with this. Perhaps DeeJ can give us a hint if some sort of system is in the works?

Been saying this since the beginning. So many cool designs are completely wasted because people are forced to keep moving up until everyone ultimately looks the same except for one exotic.
-
-
Bungie really needs to do this. It is boring seeing guardians that look exactly the same (gear wise).
-
-
Good to see this still bumping along
-
BUMP-BUMP-BUMP-BUMP IT UP!!

I do like the idea and would love to see it for PVE, but not to be a buzzkill, I wouldn't want the in the crucible. It really helps to learn and know what perks armors gives a player and it give you information to what you might expect your opponent to use. Like if I see a hunter using "Achlyophage Symbiote" I know i'll probably be expecting 4 shots and not 3 or if I see a Warlock with "Starfire Protocal" I will most like have to face 2 fusion grenades. But like I said in the beginning, would love to the wardrobe system in PVE :)

Buuuuump

We just need more variety. Most look the same.
-
Great idea, bump this more attention needed ;)
-
This is great

Bump. Diablo 3 does the same thing except they also let you pick the color of each armor piece separately. This would be amazing and something I've wanted for quite some time. With so many features available in other games the RPG community has high expectations for customization.
-
I'd love my crew name on my clothing
-
So like vanity items from terraria, to change your look but retain the good armors stats. Your welcome, I just summarized your entire topic
-
Either this or something like this is needed for sure.
-
Just add a vanity slot

I have also thought many times about having a "wardrobe" option in many games I have played. It's refreshing to see that others have had similar ideas. It would also be nice to define a sort of "load out" to associate with a given wardrobe "outfit" too. Making switching between different gear/weapon combos for different purposes (strikes/crucible) easier. As for purely visual alterations to our characters, I have detailed my thoughts regarding gear customization in another post here as well. I spent a fair amount of time thinking of all the ways that players could customize/personalize their characters, so I'd rather not post the whole list all over again. If you wouldn't mind reviewing my ideas and commenting on the thread with your own ideas, I'd sure appreciate it. I am going to add the "wardrobe" option to my list of suggestions and provide a call-back to your post. Please implement! This is crucial for making our guardians unique.
