Cheesing & Shortcutting Our Way Out of A Great Game

This community has largely degraded into a community of shortcutters. Every single shortcut that can be found is exploited to exhaustion, taking away minutes to hours to days to weeks of playing time (depending on the game event being shortcutted) they would have otherwise spent playing or figuring out through trial and error. And then the community complains because they've hit a wall with nothing to do. Instead of finding the ways to get shards, energy, strange coins... they're cross-vaulting these items to their mains. This weekend I figured why the hell not and created a second Titan since I see so many people running Nightfalls, Raids, Weeklies and Dailies 2,3 times in their intended single play period per character. I would venture this community (and lately myself) has largely cheated itself out of a game that would have been fulfilling probably right up until the DLC hit. I realize not a lot of people will come out and admit they cheesed for their raid gear or mythoclasts or other weapons, but deep down everyone knows who they are regardless of what we post here. And I'm sure for most people, with that level of gear, looking back far enough in their post history will reveal the truth. Now you have Warlocks glitching their subclass attributes for infinite self-rez and trying to keep it hush so that it doesn't get patched. When does it end? Did I spend time in the lootcave? Yeah, I did. It was kind of a neat little exploit that had an interesting social slant to it. Then the pushing, and the checkpoints and so on... I was keeping my distance from that. Right up until the last week. I'm proud to say that I made sure I beat Vault of Glass in full, repeatedly, before ever resorting to the push method. Every nightfall boss I've cleared honestly before participating in any "cheap" methods. And even those times... sure it got the job done, but it felt cheapened. I am thankful I never received any piece of serious gear when I did join a push group last week. I thought it was the last day before the patch and figured what the hell, I'll return to working it the old way after tomorrow anyways. Hell, even I figured why not do it just one... more... time. Then the patch didn't come, and this place was a frenzy of checkpoints/pushers for the next week. I truly hope that patch comes tomorrow and newer Destiny players are able to figure out this content for themselves. It will force me to continue my journey for the great gear the honest way, with trial and error, with my friends who were equally unlucky. If and when we get those Mythoclasts, we will know that we truly earned them. And hopefully once we do all of this the hard way, and we can use our new gear in the newly revised Iron Banner, that will take us through to near DLC. EDIT: This is just to clarify my point because people think I'm excusing an absence of more content in the production release of the game, and getting pretty hostile about it. That's not what I'm doing here. Like you I wish there was more of everything and expected that there was going to be. My point is that even if we had a game that was twice as big as this one is now, we as a community would be shortcutting our way to the end and still be upset about having nothing to do. It's the inconsistency I'm observing.

 • I whole heartedly agree OP. People have 3 characters, rack up enough strange coins and motes of light to buy Xur stuff 3 times over. Then they run raid/nightfall/weekly 3 times, get gear and complain there is nothing left to do. I play a lot of strikes and all I see people do is jump through to the end as quick as possible. I get that it's repetitive but killing enemies is fun and I enjoy playing the mission. (Plus more chance for drops when you kill things) I am happy to say I hit level 30 while using only one character. It took me 3 weeks once I got raid gear to get enough shards to hit level 30. Others could have done it in 1. I do think using multiple characters to triple play events is only cheating the player out of time playing the game. I too would like to join a clan that is full of legit 30s (or any level) that want to play this game for what it offers, not the exploits that you look up on YouTube, then say your bored because you know every shortcut. I beat the raid initially without using YouTube and it was the hardest thing I ever played. Took 3 hrs just to figure out the gorgon maze. With YouTube you can figure it out in 2 minutes. See the difference? It's more gratifying when you enjoy a game and play it in a trial and error way. I don't care about patches and glitches and asking Bungie to change things, I'm just tired of gamers complaining about lack of content when they rushed through this game and took shortcuts. I love when the kids doing shortcuts don't get gear, makes me happy. Now that I'm level 30, I get like 10 msgs a day asking for checkpoints or "help to push off". No answer for that bs.
