Very well said. I can tell you speak only from experience so obviously you know what you are talking about
Added tip: Strategy is key. I am not talking about cheesing bosses or any of that such. I mean real strategy.
When opening the gate, defending the confluxes, destroying oracles, fighting the Templar, retrieving the relics from the two portals and fighting Atheon, you should always come prepared. Don't allow all of you to crouch in one corner and expect victory. Split your entire team into two or three smaller teams depending on which part of the raid you are on.
Most things are pretty straightforward up until Atheon. A lot of confusion goes on in his room and it doesn't hurt to explain what to do and expect to someone new. Don't kick them out or ignore them if they are continually asking for help. Trust me, you need that particular person.
Lastly, something extremely important: Know all roles of the game. Know how to use the relic, know how to defend and etc.
When in the Atheon battle, I am usually in the back with two others because we are the "extraction" or "time" team. We always get teleported and I always grab the relic. We always pull through. The other three stay and kill the supplicants and defend the gates as they damage Atheon until we come back. But it will usually happen sometimes that someone on your team or the other dies. Don't panic. If you know how to play every role, you'll be fine until one of you can revive whoever died.
Like I said, I am always the relic person on the teleportation team, but there have been instances where because of someone dying on the defending end, I helped defend until we were able to revive him. Yes, I am usually always the relic holder, but I still know what to do if I don't get teleported and so should you. Whether it's the same or vice versa.
Never use the relic? Don't be afraid. It's not as hard as it seems. If anything, its exactly like the Sword of Crota. Never defended? Don't be afraid of that either. Focus on the supplicants so when the teleportation team comes back, they don't get killed by their explosions and if you have a chance, put a few shots into Atheon because during the entire time the teleportation team is inside one of the gates, he is motionless and is basically a sitting duck in most cases.
Good luck guardians.

I wholeheartedly agree with your whole post. A guardian who knows all of the roles is an asset to any team.
