Personally is a preference that I don't have. One of my best friends RPs females in WoW and even convinced people he was female (because he was expected to be female and didn't want to dissappoint). He said "if I'm gonna look at a-- all the time, I'd prefer it to be a female". It took a while, but I GET that. I don't understand it in a FP setting, though. However, I know some guys who play female toons and they are normal, straight guys. To each their own. 10 yrs ago, it would have caused the hamster to fall of the when, but just like other things people do, I don't have to understand it, or share their interest in such practices. Not my job.

Did everyone forget who they were when they explored tombs as Lauren croft. Or stopped aliens as Joanna dark in perfect dark?

Yes, but in those games, you were playing THEIR story (the protagonists), the rat poison to my analogy is that in RPGs, the character typically was expected to be YOUR avatar. Until WoW, I never encountered a guy playing a girl character. I'm not defending anyone, but I see both sides to this so I'm putting it out there.
