Why do we eat animals...
but then still have pets and realize they are aware? Why not eat Cats or Dogs?
I find it interesting think about.

We can eat cats and dogs. And I had chickens as pets, too bad they're not here now.

Because cats and dogs make better companions than chickens. Besides, the meat probably ain't that good anyway. If there's anything Americans know, it's where good meat comes from.

Its called a culture, other cultures do eat cats and dogs and think we are weird for eating bovine and other livestock

The only reason people are able to eat vega or vegetarian is because of the way we have our society set up. It allows you access to the amount of stuff that you need to stay healthy. Meat has more protein in it and gives you more energy without having to have outrageous amounts of food to full fill that. Sure if you are just trying to survive on your own for a bit and all you have are veggies have at it. However the only reason that that lifestyle is even possible is because of our society and the ease that we have access to food.

Some animals are companions others are food, they all have a use.

1 Replygiven that our cats and dogs also eat other animals (cats are carnivores, actually), they'd probably taste awful. that's why Chinese restaurants smother all their meats in spicy sauces or serve them deep-fried with sweet and sour sauce. grain and grass fed meat is best.

Best thing, no joke. I worked a fundraiser this morning for an animal shelter. They have cats and dogs but also they have rescued pigs. The best part: the fundraiser was a pancake and [i]sausage[/i] breakfast. :D

Because that's what we're biologically programmed to do. Although if all humans switched to veg diets it would be a lot more sustainable

4 RepliesWe haven't developed a personal psychological bond with the meat we ingest. And we eat meat because it is the most efficient source of protein of any nutritional source, as well as dense lipids.

Because they fill the roll of companions and workers, where other animals cannot.

there is a difference between that which can be domesticated and that which can not... and culture has a lot to do with it as there are places in this world where cat and dog are on the menu. so it is more about your culture and geography than any commentary on society at a global scale.

I ate dog in the phillipines. :) animals come in many different tasty shapes. And they come wrapped in clothing materials! :D

Because it is more efficient to eat farm animals, and just because we like dogs and cats better, usually.
