The "No Mic" one is debatable. I have completed the VoG 7 or 8 times now, and never with a mic. I don't have a regular team, every time I've done it, it's been with a random group from this forum or Destiny LFG.
That being said, it does require a lot of focus, patience, listening, and above all STUDYING to get right. Make sure you're reading up on EXACTLY what you should be doing in the Raid, no matter what. And always listen to the leader, they'll order you around and you need to follow INSTANTLY. If you don't not only will things go south for the team, but you'll start to get called out for it, and that's never fun.
On top of this, skill plays a huge part. Some people simply are not as good at this game in comparison to others. Humbly judge your skill level, and if you think you're not capable of holding your own area in the Raid (whether it be the Sync Plates, or one of the Templar Conflux sides, or ESPECIALLY the Supplicants/Relics), make sure you have a mic.
