I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this:
If I can have a sandwich, why not?
If I can have a coke, why not?
If I can have both, why the -blam!- not?
I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books.
That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid.
So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to:
- Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way
- Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive.
- And, in general, be rude
Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh?
SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures.
Edit: I forgot to say this:
There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken.
Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second.
Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

I haven't seen any complaints. I have a female warlock just because I wanted to. No one besides my friends have said anything, and my fiends just joke about it. My hunter and titan are both males. In hindsight, I wish I made my warlock a man and my hunter a lady. People complain about everything though, so yeah, what do you expect.

Edited by Wildcard1701: 10/24/2014 1:39:25 PMHehehe, you said hit box. Sorry I couldn't help myself. Anyway, I am a guy, 31 years old, married, 2 kids. I almost always play as a female toon in games if I have the choice. Certainly my main toon is female, sometimes alts are male. The original reason was simple: if I'm going to stare at a characters ass for 100+ hours then it might as well be a girl's ass. I know it's very juvenile, but I was a lot younger when I started playing MMOs. Now it's just more habit than anything. It's just a game, who cares what race/class/gender our toons are? The vast majority of the people I play with are guys, and I would say that consistently, across different games, about half play as female toons and half as male toons. I really don't think there's any underlying psychological issues or reasoning for why people play as different genders in games. As was stated, if this was a dating site and you were pretending to be a different gender, then maybe there would be something to explore. But this is just a game. No impact on real life. Just a game.

I just think the armor looks cooler on females except for warlocks male warlocks look cooler then females
-
I have 2 male characters and 1 female purely fir cosmetic reasons. Female awoken warlocks fit the bill Male exo titan fits the bill Male human hunter fits the bill and mostly how i see the lore Exos - warmachines/rumors they where built fir other reasons. Fit the part as titans Humans - fit the part of a hunter as this there home, they know it better then anyone... They survived alone before the city Awoken - essentially touched by the darkness/light and transformed - have an affinity to the light*sunsinger* and dark*voidwalker* thus there powers thus i wanted a witch...not a wizard People who get anal over this subject might as well go all the way like white people cant make black characters and if you are overweight you cant play because you cant make a fat guardian Thats how ridiculous this entire topic is

Edited by Undefined: 10/24/2014 1:31:45 PMI made a tranny myself. Game says it's a female, but there is no way in hell that human is one. An awoken tranny seems impossible, though--such limited customization.
three strange coins says op is female or from an Indian family
I basically have females when i get the option to choose. Simply for one reason and thats 80% of the games you are are a male character. So its nice to be able to pick something else than the usual standard
-
Edited by steg567: 10/24/2014 1:25:45 PMI think it may be because when they see a female character they get their hopes up and think its a girl gamer
-
Edited by IIHayzen: 10/24/2014 6:34:54 PMIf you are a guy and play as a girl, you probably don't and never will have, a girlfriend. Edit: Guess some people are trying to deffend their inner dragg queen. Fair enough

Whoa !!! That's a lot to say about nothing. You must have some unresolved issues you are working out. Either that or an agenda.
-
i play exo... male... who really cares its a game.
-
As an old internet friend once told me, 'If Im going to spend hours on end playing a game, I might as well enjoy what Im looking at'
-
I'm a male & I play as a male as I am more comfortable in doing so. I do think however that the Hunter looks better as a female due to the slimmer physique. I really wish you could actually modify the build of your character as I would like to play as a shorter thinner male Hunter.
-
im engaged in real life but i play a female titan in destiny - i am also flattered by the number of players that have waved and invited me to their games over the weeks and literally sat their characters down to watch me dance at the end of a strike - it makes me feel empowered ;) i seriously doubt my male hunter would attract the same attention

Edited by Roadkii J: 10/24/2014 1:15:09 PMYou know what? Your absolutely right! If I want to change my gender why the hell should anyone else cair?! Lookout world! I'm gonna fondle my new plastics breasts'!!! Edit: To be honest though this is probably one of the most interesting topics I've read around the forum and to be honest I don't think it's just because of the 'freedom of choice'. Now maybe it is and I could be wrong, after all Destiny is not like Skyrim where the only reason everyone goes for a female is because A. all the mods are for females and B. a huge portion of the mod makers are kinda perverts. But even then I'm not so sure the answer is just so simple as "because they're perverts". It could do with a LOT of things, so I'm gonna go do some research on it.

Urelated but... whats a feminist?
-
It because you can play as anything you want to play as, under the right options..
-
I actually think the type of character you create in a video has little to do with sexuality and more to do with personality. I wish I had gone into some form of behavioral science because the topic of why we play as certain characters in video games is highly intriguing to me.
-
It's okay, you have the right to fap on your Female Character late at night.
-
To each their own I say but a lot of people play female characters because a lot of games are single gender (usually male) so playing a female is different for them. Not too sure how people can consider that not being comfortable with sexuality.
-
Honestly, I just didn't bother changing race or gender when I made all 3 of my characters. I got: Awoken male - Warlock Exo female - Hunter Human male - Titan I got lucky that I didn't repeat races. Lol
-
I have no problem with the males making a female character but in my opinion he female character model in this game doesn't look very good and makes the character look kind of anorexic

I don't have any problem with: "don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male." Because, your totally right! I'm a girl, right...and I did my first character female, my second male. Your also correct, this ain't a dating site, GOD who would think that. So, where I think its "kinda wrong" its to lie about your gender if asked. Although, I don't mind, but sometimes its nice to know there real girls out there.
-
Three reasons: * I want an agile character. female char seems like more agile * dont know if correct but smaller hitbox and smaller area to actually spot in PvP? * The main reason: If I am to spend hundred of hours looking with a character I'd rather look at eyecandy than a fugly guy in a robe! my five bytes!
-
i have 2 males & a female simply because i think both genders look cool so i wish to play as both. no idea why its a big deal.
-
I don't mind playing as a female, however if I have a choice I'd rather be a male. Saying you'd rather stare at a female model is no excuse though, considering this is a first person shooter, it's only third person a small portion of the time. Even if the game was third person, you wouldn't be staring at your character, you'd be playing the game. I have nothing against people who play other genders by choice, I just think excuses like that are rather stupid.
