I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this:
If I can have a sandwich, why not?
If I can have a coke, why not?
If I can have both, why the -blam!- not?
I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books.
That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid.
So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to:
- Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way
- Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive.
- And, in general, be rude
Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh?
SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures.
Edit: I forgot to say this:
There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken.
Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second.
Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

I personally feel like the game could have been vastly improved if I was allowed to play as a dog... Make it bitch either would be fine.
-
"why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females?" Why? That's my question. It's a game, do whatever the hell you want. Go play Saint's row, IT'S WORSE WITH THIS KIND OF THING. Don't even start with this, come on.
-
I don't see why it should even be brought up. Did everyone forget who they were when they explored tombs as Lauren croft. Or stopped aliens as Joanna dark in perfect dark? It's pretty badass when female characters are strong. Even in real life, I couldn't push 8 pounds of human out of my body. That's for damn sure.

Personally is a preference that I don't have. One of my best friends RPs females in WoW and even convinced people he was female (because he was expected to be female and didn't want to dissappoint). He said "if I'm gonna look at a-- all the time, I'd prefer it to be a female". It took a while, but I GET that. I don't understand it in a FP setting, though. However, I know some guys who play female toons and they are normal, straight guys. To each their own. 10 yrs ago, it would have caused the hamster to fall of the when, but just like other things people do, I don't have to understand it, or share their interest in such practices. Not my job.

I have my own story between these three female characters It makes playing as all three more fun
-
Cuz girl warlocks with cloaks and a massive shotgun look sick. They also skinnier and harder to hit, or so it seems
-
I play a few female avatars because I like the way the armor fits. I like the character models. I like being kinda unique because you don't see a lot of female toons. If you see a female character usually the first instinct is that it's a girl who actually likes games, there is hope to find a girl that I can play with and maybe talk to and maybe form some kind of a relationship with. Because it is kinda rare. Then when they find out that it's a guy it kinda ruins that possibility for them and I think it makes people angry. People have weird issues like that. Just my thoughts, although I have never personally encountered someone who disagrees with my character choice.

Edited by Leonitus Magnum: 10/25/2014 7:31:23 AMOkay. Im in this list like the most of you as far as the topic goes. But to be Blunt why you care? This has been an on-going Bottomless war in many games. Let them whine and boohoo. Personally the attention shouldnt bother anyone. A Person's choice.

I roll 2 male characters and 1 female because i didn't feel like looking at a dudes ass when running through the tower any more. The real reason is cosmetics, and to see if certain lines in the story are changed based on race or gender.
-
I play one, because as a straight male I'd rather look at a chick lol
-
I play as females to break the stereotype of males always being the hero of the game. Plus female armor usually has more detail then the male armor.
-
Why do the robot characters have genders anyway? It's not like they shoot from their robo-breasts a la Austin Powers. They serve no function except to quell some weird fetishes... maybe.
-
Bleh, i made first cha a male exo, 2ndry female exo 3rd female awoken. Mostly to hear diff voices in the cut screens and screams when you get shot. I solo 95% of the time anyway and dont give 2 shits about what others think about it =p
-
Why are the awoken sexier than the humans? Lol females that is
-
I haven't seen anyone caring about this outside of this thread. The internet is mostly dudes, and the rest is mostly dudes playing as chicks. It's not a big deal.
-
Why do humans want to play as robots. I mean it's your choice or whatever, I just think it's creepy.
-
I can't imagine playing as anything but what I am (a guy), It really helps me fit into the role I'm playing.
-
the only time i usually make a male toon is when the male race looks like a total badass...like in World of Warcraft...if your gonna go male then Male Orc of course cause they look so menacing...most males in human form in other games are just boring lol.
-
3 female characters. I'm a relationship for 3 years. Yeah pretty much it's more fun to have a girl character get armor and it looks way better. Titans especially have this clay look to them as a male hunters too. It almost looks so mine craft like with how blocky they are. Females have better hair, war paint and armor texture.
-
Warlock-Human-MALE Hunter-Awoken- FEMALE Titian-Exo-XY Never cared much about what their butts look like* (in this game) I'm normally too busily looking somewhere/virtually anywhere else. (again, in the game). *Being born half black, typing that caused physical pain. :/

I don't mind people being female characters. I have one for the first time in my gaming career. However, people that pick the female character out of lust kind of creep me out. I chose mine because it fit the Solar Warlock persona. Orange hair, orange eyes. It works out perfectly. A lot of the male population tries to insult masculinity because they're uncomfortable with their own. So every time someone tries to insult someone on that basis, they're truly just insulting themselves.

I have a female toon for the same reason everyone else does - so I can pound one out quickly during the sunsinger animation. datass.jpg

I haven't seen any complaints. I have a female warlock just because I wanted to. No one besides my friends have said anything, and my fiends just joke about it. My hunter and titan are both males. In hindsight, I wish I made my warlock a man and my hunter a lady. People complain about everything though, so yeah, what do you expect.
