I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this:
If I can have a sandwich, why not?
If I can have a coke, why not?
If I can have both, why the -blam!- not?
I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books.
That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid.
So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to:
- Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way
- Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive.
- And, in general, be rude
Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh?
SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures.
Edit: I forgot to say this:
There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken.
Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second.
Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

I would like to note that most of you play games like tomb raider where you play as a female so don't dis people who pick to play as a female. Also ide rather stare at a female avatar all day than a male so why wouldn't I pick a female? Maybe your disturbed if ur a guy and wanna stare at a guy all day
-
Ellen Ripley. That is all.
-
Cause my character looks badass the fk, I don't care what people think
-
Really??? There are a lot more things that need to be addressed than guys playing female characters... Let people experience the game the way they want too. If you're trying to flirt with girls on an online game you need some serious help lmao

A sandwich and a Coke sound pretty good right now

It is a fact that girl avatar players by males do it to get invited more often and carried through things. That has always been the case. Trying to get an edge in gaming isn't weird. The player falling for it are, and even weirder is them getting pissed when they find out it was a guy. Just get over it and assume that they are all 400 pound guys playing in last week's underwear, drinking Red Bulls.....

Hunters look better female. Odd, I just find hunters personality to be female. A bit of a bitch.
-
I agree! It's like saying Males can't pkay tomb raider because Lara Croft is a female. Lol.
-
I'm a dude, and I prefer a dude character (my preference) BUT as I played through as a Male Titan I noticed the Male Warlocks look funny as hell with their dresses on, and Male Hunters look fat and awkwardly shaped. But the females are just awesome for both. Which is why I prefer female characters for those two. Idk why people give a shit what other people play as...

"O em gee, a girl gamer. Let me invite her to the party and put my 12 year old charm on her." "Oh no, girl gamer is actually guy, I am butt hurt and guy is obviously gay or gender confused" Let's be honest here, pretty much that is the case lol
-
This argument has plagued every gaming thread I know. Who cares god >_>
-
Bungie please nerf males Their ruining the value of females
-
My hunter is a female . That Is all
-
I find it weird cause when I play games where I make my avatar it's a representation of me, albeit a better version lol. However, my gf and her lady friend often play male toons it doesn't bother me. Been funny a couple of times when on mic I'll call her baby and she rarely uses her Mic (Astro A50 lol money well spent) the reactions I get from others me calling a male avatar baby, it's definitely funny.do that's just my opinion, but my opinion doesn't mean others need to follow. Your game enjoy it however you want.

I am always surprised this is an issue. As many said, it's a game, go with whatever you want, for whatever reason. It's no ones business why. When DDO first launched, my wife played a female human pally. When we joined PUGs, people were surprised she really was a woman, and not a man. I use female avatars in some games for meta reasons. As others have said, it could be better voices or modeling. In some games (like Titanfall), I use a mix of avatars to help me quickly find the loadout I want.

Edited by KiIler-Whale: 10/25/2014 8:12:08 PMI have 2 male characters and 1 female. I also got laid last weekend and live a normal life. It's simply dumb kids who think they're masters of psychology because they read an article on google. Like they've never heard of mirrors edge or tomb raider.

My friend's response to different genders in regard to WoW "Well, would you rather look a dude's butt all day or a girl's?"
-
Dude its just lame and youre a lame for doin it Tldr

If given the choice, I chose female characters over males. Why? Gaming in general seems to be sexist. People with different skin are still all humans. People with different genders are still humans. We aren't all that different. I know tons of strong, intelligence and fierce women that are amazing at video games.... And life in general. Gender means nothing- we are all equal. But that will never be a globally seen view. Rip me if you have too....... I said my piece and if you think you are better than women thus cannot be a female character when women are forced to be male characters all the time..... Then you are already the ultimate loser.
-
Thank you for adressing this. I play as a female of all races because the voice acting is better and more enjoyable then the male acting.
-
They female character creation in games and the armour is without a doubt, better looking then most male armour.
-
My female Titan looks awesome. My male hunter and warlock look cool, but just not as badass as the female for some reason.

I'm a girl. Send me your social security, credit card number and legal name and I'll send you dem n00dz

Edited by Elaborate Ruse: 10/24/2014 9:46:24 PMThank you for stepping up and saying something. As a male who plays an Awoken female, I'm quite tired of getting messages of a dispicable nature that assume I'm a woman. Simply put, I didn't like any of the male character models, and I found the female models to be more well done. If the messages I get are any indication of the messages real women get while playing games online, then those people that send such abhorent messages should be deeply ashamed of themselves. This is not a problem that is exlusive to Destiny. I have an Aunt who likes to play UNO on Xbox live. Every time she plays, she gets messages from guys. One guy even sent her a picture of himself in his underwear. It's absolutely disgusting the way some male gamers treat female gamers. It's no wonder there are very few female gamers who are willing to classify themselves as such.

I personally feel like the game could have been vastly improved if I was allowed to play as a dog... Make it bitch either would be fine.
