I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this:
If I can have a sandwich, why not?
If I can have a coke, why not?
If I can have both, why the -blam!- not?
I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books.
That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid.
So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to:
- Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way
- Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive.
- And, in general, be rude
Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh?
SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures.
Edit: I forgot to say this:
There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken.
Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second.
Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

I actually am going to make my warlock an awoken female because of the lore females as an awoken are held higher than the males and I feel like the awoken look like the Mage types to me

Edited by Joldir: 11/2/2014 10:20:33 PMI don't think it's weird or anything, but as a female I have no desire to play as a male character. Maybe that's why so many female players are a bit confused by it. The male players who think guys playing under the female character are weird probably just have problems with their own masculinity.

Edited by Jokon: 11/2/2014 8:44:59 PMLegit facts if you play female and you're a dude you have some desire to be female irl and if thats not the case!!! You're a virgin.

It's the internet pal so if I want to tell you to -blam!- off I can so
-blam!- off
I wouldn't choose a female character, but if others want to that's cool. I wouldn't worry about negative opinions, just an avatar.

I'm a guy and all my characters are female for aesthetic purposes. My Titan was originally a Male Exo but I was forced to delete him because he looked like fat dude in skin tight spandex ( the starter equipment that Titan begins out with isn't very flattering to the male character model's build ).
-
Female Titans have the best character design imo. Before that I was against making female characters and questioned why anyone would make one.

All I keep hearing is "in a game people can be whatever they want" and I'm jut curious why so many guys want to be a girl. Look I really don't care. I have knee jerk reaction to it, but it doesn't last long. I'm not bothered long term by the fact, but it is a remarkable curiosity. Is it because they are designed hyper feminine and supposed to be attractive? Who are you trying to attract? It's not third person (barring the tower) so it isn't for you to look at. I think most people feel when they see these genders, they want it to be an accurate representation of the gaming demographic, and right now, 9/10 girls sound like Rusty Nail from Joy Ride on chat. It's disturbing on a visceral level, but many people like myself can get past that, and it just become a curiosity.

Sharee don't like it Rock the casbah

I'm a guy and I've always preferred playing as a female character, GTA5 my character is a girl. Destiny my character is a girl. borderlands ill always choose Lilith, mya or Gaige. Mass effect I play as fem shep. Tomb raiders Lara croft, and the list could go on forever. The fact is I prefer the female characters as is most cases are more bad ass then the males. GTA and destiny is an exception but I mean come on.... Boobs..

Edited by goldenfetus: 10/31/2014 7:27:04 PMMost video games are filled with socially-inept white knights and manginas, who lose all self-respect the first time a female gives them attention. Females have an easy time taking advantage of these players for in-game perks . 'Males' who play females in games are usually trying to cash in on this system to get access to these same perks from other players. People who get angry about this fall into one of several categories: 1. They are a white knight mangina who has been burned by giving special attention to males playing as females 2. They are normal gamers who resent gender advantages and view males playing as females as defectors who lower the bar and corrupt the purity of games I'm in the second category.

My hunter is a female awoken, simply because it just seems to make more sense for the hunter to me. My other characters are a male exo titan and a male human warlock.
-
No issue with this happening. Female avatars can have small hit boxes, making you harder to kill in PvP.

I play however i want. What i do with my free time or however i play is nobody else business. What i enjoy, someone else might not. It's subjective. That's all there is to it.

Edited by Evil MonQey: 10/31/2014 7:18:54 PMI do what I want, and if you have a problem with it sucks to be you. I give zero -blam!-s.

I don't really give a shit about this stuff but the argument of "I don't want to look at Man-Ass all day" is just irritatingly stupid. Are you so insecure with your sexuality that you need to prevent yourself from seeing someone of the same sex? I play as a male character, that doesn't mean I'm gay or anything.
-
We really have this in-depth of a post because a male plays as a female? Holy shit, I don't even play as a female, but this is so pointless to make this gentleman waste his time writing in anger ALL because some of you don't approve? Bungie fans have taken a turn for the worst.
-
I'm a dude and I have two females and one male character, for the sake of change..
-
Who's complaining
-
Gayyyyyyyyy

"I don't play female because I'm not female" That's what most people say. The thing is, even if you are not female, the character you have in game is nowhere near who you would ever be. You can't have space magic, be immortal, and fend off multiple alien races from multiple planets like your character can.
-
Obviously to look fabulous when you do that victory dance as an awoken female

Edited by Roller__Toaster: 10/29/2014 1:48:10 PMI could really care less either way. One interesting thing I've noticed though. I have many female friends, and none of them seem the slightest bit interested in making a male character in destiny.
