I think we should perhaps be offered 'something', not because we should be entitled to it, but just as a gesture of good will. We still don't know what they have planned aside from the known paid dlc (which we are in no way entitled to unless we have already paid for it), so maybe they have something planned...but it would take time, it was quite a while before bioware released the amended ending for mass effect, so if they do now to pressure I would expect it to occur on a similar timeline. Which with planned dlc and biannual full game releases may be a bit pointless. Maybe a year and a half from now they could releases a 'destiny directors cut' allow the free upgrade for existing player, and it would offer new players a more rounded off experience in prep for destiny 2, which would follow 6 months after...
