The USEFUL game mechanic NO-ONE tells you about...
I found out online and verified in the game, that there's a critical ability every player has access to that the tutorial and controls don't tell you about.
I am talking about Destiny's [b]cover system[/b].
Yes, that's right, Destiny has a cover system that few know about, and is never mentioned in the tutorial. It's easy to perform and it's extremely useful for all classes.
The way the cover system works is that you go find waist-high or higher cover, something you can see over while standing. You get behind this cover, then you crouch, and when you want to fire at the enemy you just need to AIM DOWN SIGHTS and your character will pop up over the cover AUTOMATICALLY to fire. When you want to get back under cover, just RELEASE the aim button and your character will automatically duck down again.
WARNING: Your character will only pop up while aiming to shoot, you CANNOT ADS and then toss a grenade, or your character will drop back down and throw it at your cover. If you want to throw a grenade from cover, you must stand up and throw it, then crouch back down behind your cover.

I heard this was true. I tested it and it does seem to work. I still find myself peeking around the side of cover.

Yeah I found that out awhile back on the Vaalus Ta'arc (misspelled sorry) strike. I would get on an upper platform and snipe behind a barricade.

yeah i learned that randomly against Balus Taarch or whatever his name is about a month ago... You go crouch behind those little walls on the ledges. don't stand too close though. maybe like a foot away from it worked best for me. its awesome... crouch while the ice breaker charges up. when its full you just pop up and unload a clip. then disappear just as quickly. easy money baby :)

I always use this against bosses. I actually discovered it about a month ago the first time I went to venus. On the first mission, when you first discover the Vex, I crouched behind a pillar-stump when the smoke thing happened. [spoiler]But I didnt tell anyone cause I'm a dousche lol.[/spoiler]

I tried it and it only worked once. Besides, they don't have the corner peek which is better then Just general cover.

Bungie posted a video on their twitter about a bunch of "myths" in game, and the cover system was in it. Most people probably never saw that though.

I think you can jump all the way into the air aswell, sometimes twice. still not confirmed tho waiting for the dlc. also solid objects will stop bullets, keep in mind guys.

I'm guessing the reason you're not told about it is because it really doesn't work properly. It seems you have a 50/50 chance of actually getting it to work, and the grenade throw during it is ridiculous.
