There are a lot of mix emotions around Xur and the purchasing of Exotics. I will have to say that there is a thin line between not selling them and selling them. I would agree that Xur should not just outright sell exotics. It makes these weapons/armor lose their "Exotic" Feel to them as they have become way to common to obtain. However I understand where some people don't come from a MMO background and can't put hours on end into getting these exotics.
So this leaves us to try to find a middle ground to semi make both parties happy.. (Good luck with that...)
In previous games I've played some of them have introduced 'Slots' with weapon and armor modifications (Mods). I think Destiny is lacking this type of customization feature to allow players to build a unique character build. Have a system to further progress your armor and weapons drives another key factor to keep people playing the game and working towards something other than random loot drops.
The best method that I've seen this done was to randomize the amount of slots on an item, such as 1 to 5 slots. The more slots the better the item can be modified. So one day I could get a 1 slotted Ice Breaker and 3 weeks from now I could get 5 slotter. Which of course would have to have a very low % of getting a 5 slotter.
Now these Mods could consist of
- Increase #/% of Dmg, Armor, Speed, Intel, Toughness, Life, ...
- Switch Dmg Type (Void/Fire...)
- Increase Size of Clip
And while all or some could also come with a possible decrease in another ability.
So where does Xur & Strange Coins come into all this? Well Xur could stop selling Exotic Weapons and Armor all together and sell Modifiers for Strange Coins. Xur could keep the same concept and have different modifiers each week just like it sells the modifiers for our speed bikes.
So what do you guys think and/or what kind of middle ground do you think we could come up with?
