The lower armor ranking is combined with a higher dps and/or damage skill in an mmo. Our supers are pretty powerful but can often be avoided due to animation time to cast. Self res comes after you already died so you really gain no ground unless you kill 2 people right you res up. If bungie wanted to follow thr class system they would have done lower armor ratings combined with a boost to weapon dps.
