I immediately thought of Destiny for this one. I don't know if it is Bungie's or Activisions fault in the end, I don't really care because I love this game so damn much despite the way the story is being fed. . .slow and watered down. . .
This is a very interesting point of view, that nobody remembers or to a point even cares that much for a story. Once the game is over, we don't talk about 'Wow main character had to make such a hard choice and blah blah.' The only stories we have are about those elite moments when you dodged a rocket and tossed a knife across the map for that perfect headshot kill that won the match. Here is the link:

I contend that this isn't such a bad thing. Some stories will stick with you forever, I can still remember the entire story line to Legend of Dragoon on PS1 (one of my all time favs). Outside of simplified 'pure' RPGs It isn't like I can tell you anything about the story of any game in recent memory. Neverwinter, for example, has a great story. . .can't remember jack about it, but the combat and dungeons are so amazing I could go on for days. I think this is where Destiny is trying to thrive, in the 'tell your own story' kind of way. In this regard it absolutely delivers, I have told many friends about the amazing exploits of my character while not so much mentioning anything about the story out side of the basics.
** This is not a pardon at all for Bungie. You are in no way absolved of your butchering of your own story and the immemorable pieces you have given. I personally want SO MUCH MORE for the story, but, I appreciate the stories you have let me create.

Edited by Jebus Kreist: 10/20/2014 10:05:57 AMThe story before Staten left would have been a defining moment for RPG's on consoles. But then he left and it got butchered despite being all fleshed out and virtually complete. They even had the voicing recorded and had to re-record it just so it conformed with the new story, probably why Peter's voice acting went from not terrible to emotionless boredom near the end as he had to record MORE lines after he was suppose to be done. Pretty damn sad what they did to it. They thought it was too complex and complicated for the console genre, so they made it so casual and dumbed down that it's basically not there anymore. Rest in Pepperonis - Destiny story, you are pretty terrible and impossible to follow, but at least the games mechanics and gameplay are a saving grace.
