Very helpful, Roostarr. I got another go at the VoG on Saturday and ended up with the relic for a while. Then I did Sword of Crota again. Sword of Crota is very similar. It's said in that link, but what worked the best for us was to gunslinger double jump and then right trigger ground pound. That was pretty effective in avoiding getting shot and taking out the hobgoblins/minotaur.
