Advice to New Raiders

So I've reached level 30 on two toons (2 Hunters with shared gear) and 26 on my Warlock. I figured it was time to help educate new raiders in an attempt to help them to understand the mechanics of the encounters in VoG. I see a lot of people on these forums asking for tips or strategies, but I'd like to say, that they are super easy to find using Google. But since I'm here I figured I'd compile some useful info. Part One: Opening of the Gate This is a pretty straight forward encounter and will test to see if your group can even survive the VoG. Usually if you are failing at this you'll fail to harder mechanics later. Your fire team needs to break into three 2 man groups. One group left, one top mid, and one far top right. The idea here is to keep the circles protected from Elite Minotaurs known as Pratorians. These enemies should be your top priority, if they get into your circles they will take control of them and quickly start disassembling the spire (the thing you build to open the gate). The have 4 spawn locations. On the left side it can be behind you if you are facing toward the Gate and right in front of you. On the right top side they can spawn by the portal in the back, and at the bottom of the ramp heading up to the top middle area. The left and right side have pretty straight forward jobs, prioritize the Pratorians, kill adds, keep your portal up. The guys in the top mid should split and each take a side up top, in order to help with that respected side. Once a Pratorian starts moving toward the middle the person on that side comes over and helps kill it. This is rinse and repeat for about 5 minutes until the Spire finishes building. On a side note. This encounter can go on FOREVER if you can't control all three circles for a long enough time. With a bit of planning, it's very easy. Part Two: Phase 1: Confluxes Here you will want to split your team into a few different formations. For the first part of the encounter there be one Confluxes to defend, so just split up near it and keep the Vex away from it. After a while the Confluxes will des pawn and the Templar will summon his legions. This usually consists of him summoning a ton of Fanatics (Stay away from them and where they die!) If you step in a green puddle (itll say Mark of Negation and your screen turns green) you new to get to the middle where the bright white light is coming out of a circle on the floor. Also do not depend on the light to cleanse you the whole fight, it's only got so many uses. Next the Confluxes will be on the left and right sides. Split into two predetermined groups and have one person protect near the mid, and the other two focusing on the back area. Rinse and repeat with the killing and the Summoning. Finally there will be three Confluxes, just follow the same steps and it's over. Part Two: Phase Two: Oracales If you haven't done this I suggest looking up the spawn locations on google, so that you can get an idea of where they spawn. Every so often a bright yellow light will spawn known as an Oracle, as soon as they spawn they need to die. Split your groups into two three man teams, one on the left and one on the right. Designate one person to take out snipers and help with oracles. The other two should focus on goblins and Minotaurs along with oracles. After a bunch of waves and oracles the fight ends. The snipers spawn on the outside platforms. Part Two: Phase Three: Templar This fight has a few mechanics to to that are new. There will be a relic/shield where the white pool was in the oracle room. One player must take control of the shield for the entirety of the fight. Controls for Shield: R1 Quick Attack (jumping high in the air and spamming R1 will result in very fast movement in a direction you want. Comes in handy when evading) R1+L1 uses the relics Special. You will use it often in this fight to bring down the Templars perma-shield. R2 is a heavy attack and it's more effective the higher in the air you are. L1 is the circle cleanse, acts as a shield and gets rid of Mark of Negation. Now designate a shield person and make sure they are comfortable using the shield. Split into two groups. Three on one side and two with the shield on the other (just like you did with the oracles). The shield guys job is to kill Harpies with his melee so that his special fills up. Once your super is up you aim at the Templar and use it, this will make him vulnerable to attacks. Take note that during this encounter, Oracles will spawn every so often, 2 per summon on hard, 1 per summon on normal. They must die. Also when the Templar shield comes down from the super people will be trapped in red orbs, you need to shoot them until they are gone and continue damaging the boss. The shield guy can kill it with melee attacks to get it off himself. Just be aware that it's easy to move through the red orb when you have the shield, be aware of this because if you don't kill the orb and you move out of it you will die. After the shield comes down there will also be pillars of light that spawn. These show the next teleport spot for the Templar. You need to jump into them and turn the rings from red to white in order to stop him getting a shield again and teleporting. This has a positive and negative to it. While it blocks his teleport and stops orbs from spawning, it also spawns a few Minotaurs. If your group is taking a long time to damage the boss you can get over run by Minos. This is trial and error for every group until you find your rhythm. Keep up the steps and it's an easy kill. Part Three: Labyrinth of the Gorgons I suggest watching a video, there's no real way to explain it without seeing it. Just keep in mind no double jumping, no hovering, no shooting, and no melee to each other. The Gorgons will aggro to all the above. Daughter up again <.<. Will finish last two encounters and fix iPhone mistypes when I finish.
