Being an Awoken breaks the lore of the game.
[b]TIMELINE:[/b]
Pre-GoldenAge, Traveler Discovery, Golden Age, Darkness Discovery, The Collapse, the after effects (Forming the Consensus, Building the City, ect.), Destiny I, The Future/Sequels.
Being an Awoken breaks the game. I know your attention span is about 10 minutes #Destiny, so I'll keep it brief.
In game lore fact: Your character died before the Traveler Discovery. This is implied and stated through quotes and the story (or lack thereof).
In game lore fact: The Awoken were created by the Collapse, after they tried to escape into space. This is stated by grimoire, promotions for the game, and many other things.
Rationalized Opinion: Your character, an Awoken who can channel the Travelers light, should not exist because the Awoken did not exist until after the Collapse. Think about it. Your character has to be "Pre-GoldenAge" and the Collapse does not occur until later down the timeline.
So, Bungie, you screwed up. Now what? We get it, Staten leaving leaves the story much to be desired. The one thing you should not do is ignore this.

7 RepliesWhat is this 'in game lore fact'? There is no in game lore. "You've been dead a long time". This doesn't have to mean 'since before the Golden Age' "You will see a lot of things you don't understand". Because you have been dead 'a long time'. Doesn't have to mean you were dead before the collapse.

Bungie are evil geniuses if the did all this bs with the story just to bait us all.... To stick with this game, it's dlcs and its sequels... Just to finally have the story finally make sense in the end... That's genius, evil but genius... Like giving a detective a puzzle and watch him dance.

whos to say they didnt already exsist and were just discovered later and you were an unknown one who happend to die there after everyone left so theres no way they would find you

10 RepliesMore importantly being an Awoken breaks the continuity of the dialogue in the game and leads to odd story development. Remember in the game when your ghost states that you have to find "The Awoken" in order to learn about the Black Garden? If you are playing as an Awoken I would imagine you'd know who they are and where they came from. Also upon meeting the Awoken the dialogue is the same, it would have been nice or interesting at least to have different dialogue presented to Awoken characters upon meeting the Queen and Her Brother.

inb4 you are a Guardian from the future sent to the past by the Vex in an attempt to destroy the Traveller but are misled by the Speaker who insists you must destroy the Darkness because the Speaker and Traveller know who/what you are. The fact that Crow should've existed and is suppose to shed "light" (pun intended) on how the Traveller and Speaker had brought the darkness could've led more of an interesting story.

"Been dead a long time" is relative, especially considering its been some time since the end of the Collapse. And as no Guardian has any memory of their past life, it would make sense they have no idea what is going on.

I think we just have to accept that the story is ill-executed. If the rumours are true it's going to take years of expansions to put forth the necessary writing to make it make sense or at least portray the world better. Or maybe we'll get lucky and there will be some deep story content in the upcoming expansions. Though, again, if the rumour mill is true and scrapped content is being patched together for the next couple pieces of DLC then I'm just going to look forward to the third peice of DLC, whatever it ends up being.

I agree with Arexu, there was an idea pitched in Bungies earlier presentations about having 3 playable races, each with a story driven plot that lead to a confluent ending. Theres even an hour long conference vid on their presentation at GDC that you probably can still find on youtube. I don't have a link considering how long ago I saw it, but it was definitely talked about by Joe and Luke.

It does? I assumed we all died when The Darkness came. I also assumed we didn't remember anything. The Speaker sure knows a lot. So maybe he's been alive since the collapse.

The Awoken were created when Humans tried to flee Earth during the Collapse and encountered something that changed them into the Awoken. They most likely fled early on during the Collapse. Who says all the events of the Collapse took place in a short period of time? It may have been a years long war for all we know. Maybe during this time some Awoken tried to return to Earth and died there?

But it makes little sense actually, like, you were created in the Collapse, so you're supposed to know what was going on back then. Then why does your character knows nothing about the Darkness? Or about what happened before?

5 RepliesThe Awoken are the race that are supposed to be revived by the Ghosts. They cut the other two races intro video's and used the Awoken video for everyone.
