I really think this could be implemented fairly easily and enhance quality of life for everyone involved..
Currently, we just have emotes with the D-Pad that aren't really used for much of anything...and it's valuable real estate on the controller, so we need a way to expand available slots and uses of the D-Pad.
I would propose a menu option of sorts, that can be opened with the d-pad and then navigated with the either the left or right thumb stick.
For the sake of argument, I will use the X1 controller terms.
Upon pressing and holding the D-Pad direction, a circular, semi-transparent menu displays around your character offering anywhere from 4-10 available choices...doing so increases the number of available options from 4 to a total of 40 (10 buttons * 4 d-pad direction).
Pressing and holding the D-Pad in the same direction (or any direction, I suppose) would cancel out of the menu immediately.
For instance:
D-Pad UP: Emotes.
X - Wave
Y - Point
A - Dance
B - Sit
LB - Laugh
LT - Taunt
RB - Lay down
RT - Bow
L TS Press - Cower
R TS Press - Kneel
D-Pad RIGHT: Weapons/Combat
X - Primary Ammo Syn.
Y - Seconday Ammo Syn.
A - Heavy Ammo Syn.
B - Switch Subclass (?)
Or hell..you could even just have as many options as you need inside each menu group and just use "A" or "X" or whatever to select it, and then the menu closes itself..
And that's as far as I got before deciding to make a thread to facilitate brainstorming on ways to improve upon the idea and let it gain traction (hopefully).
I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but hadn't seen a thread proposing it...but it does open up a ton of room as far as menu choices and options are concerned.
Something along the lines of Mass Effect (image linked from Google Images).
Thoughts?

bump for DeeJ.

Emotes for NON COMBAT SCENARIOS Easy weapon switching in combat. i.e. Shotgun to sniper or Rocket Launchers to Heavy Machine Gun

we don't need emote the good old t-bag is good enough. I would rather have it use solely for ammo synthesis and switching class. If you really want emote PS4 can use touch pad swipe and xbox can use hand gesture for emote.

Really good post.... I have made my own on the matter. The thing for me is that one should not make the use of the D-pad to cluttered. Too many E-motes is not really a quality of life improvement, but simple messaging like pre-made quotes that appear above your head in form of text "I´m looking for a Raid" or "Looking for Strikes!" and so on could be a good use of the D-pad and loadout presets also. In my post I adressed the loadouts and the use of items in inventory and alot of other stuff. Feel free to check it out.

Yes. Okay, you can use emotes on d-pad in the tower. But in the game it is such a waste of buttons.

Please dont give good ideas to Bungie....they already have so many good ideas that they could not fit them all into the game. But we can dance instantly on the D-Pad instead of synthesizing ammo in a firefight because dancing is needed in a shooter.....am I rite?

Awesome suggestion!! I would also like to see them use the D-pad to display a icon over you character at the tower to show what type of event you are seeking people to join in with such as strikes, raid, storyline, or crucible.

Love the ideas. I would love the idea of switching between Subclasses in particular.

I want a D pad button to give other guardians the finger when they tick me off

Great idea!!!!

I like the idea... the d-pad emotes is such a waste, but I do think the options should be more confined. Like 3-4 options per direction. I don't need to use the wrong synthesis because I was fumbling through 8 different options... learned that the hard way in other games.

I'm Tapunks Calmbreeze and I support this message.

I like this too. Add unlockable emotes and stuff.

I like it! It would be nice if you could set weapon/gear load outs to A, B, X, and Y. Press Left on the D-Pad, and then select the load out you need. It would come in handy when you're using Thorn but would like to switch to Ice Breaker in the middle of battle. I guess it somewhat bypasses the point of only being able to equip one exotic at a time, but it would still be nice to have!
