WoW has never tried to sell itself on it's story, Destiny has and is still trying to. That's the difference in all of this. WoW is a huge Mmo, with classes, factions, gear trading, creating and a huge single/co-op experience. No it doesnt have a strong story but it never said it did.
Destiny has no big class differences apart from a special once in a while. No factions at all really. No trading in anyway, which is stupid but you can't create gear or anything so maybe that's why. It did say it had a Rich Cinematic Story, but that's not there. That's what people want if they aren't a real mmo, not just PVP tweaks.

Yes yes I agree, I already submitted some suggestions like auction house/trading, creating armour etc and finding our own blueprints/fragments and crafting them ourselves. And some other stuff like a terminal in the tower which allows you to engage with a fireteam looking to do VOG and strikes. And I also agree that the story was a bit weak. I want to learn more about the bad guys and the destiny world in general. Usually that's what you get in a story. But there is so many baddies they need more story to cover them all. And I'm guessing that's where the expansion comes into play. But I think that's one of your issues (I'm assuming) that there should be more story without having to buy into the expansion. And I agree with you to the point that there are aspects of the game that feel a bit lacking. Like for me who are the awoken?? Where did they come from. Like in WOW you start off in your faction like night elf Druid and you do some quests and get some kind of back story. This just throws you straight in regardless if you are human or a machine. But this game is just starting out, I say give it some time 3.2m players is nothing to be sniffed away I'm sure they will keep updating and not just through expansions.
