I just had an idea yesterday, and then i saw the "Bungie, Give this man a job!" post on the forum, and looks like we were heading (on one point) to the same idea... but.. instead of using a d-pad to tell others "i want to do this or that"...
Why not having an NPC in The Tower so you can list your name on the different events.
So basically, you go to this NPC and you can whether start a fireteam depending on the people who's on the list (Online atm) or add yourself to the list to the events that you'd like to participate... it would be really simple.
So an example would be like:
Daily Heroic
- User 1
- User 2
Weekly Heroic
- User 4
- User 6
Weekly Nightfall
- User 10
Vault of Glass Raid (Normal)
- User 5
- User 3
- User 8
Vault of Glass Raid (Hard)
- User 11
- User 12
- User 13
Of course it would be shown with a preeetty UI Destiny like, where the users are exactly the same as when you see your friends and stuff, if you "mouseover" them, you can see their details (Warlock Lv28 Exo, Hunter Lv29 Awoken, etc)
You can invite them, add them, send them a message (exactly the same as we have now).
Now... see that whenever you want to invite someone to your fireteam, leads to the PSN, then gives the option to attach a message to the invite... okay... why not Destiny attach a default message including the type of event that you are inviting this guy to... for example, if the guy was listed to do 2 or 3 events, one of them is Vault of Glass (Normal), the message that Destiny has to add on the invite automatically would be.
"Hey, this is an invite to play Vault of Glass (Normal)"
That way, the person who receives the message, knows exactly what the invite is for.
If you want to un-list you on the NPC, is as easy as going back to the tower, talk to the NPC, and remove yourself individually (or not) from the lists.
The good thing on this is, you can do WHATEVER you want while waiting for someone to invite you... instead of spending hours -maybe- on the Tower for someone to show up and invite you... you can go farming, you can do single 24 strikes or whatever you desire.
If you are Offline, you get "Invisible" on the NPC lists... so no one sees you in there, when you go back Online, you are there.
What do you guys think?

Love this idea we need more optional Matchmaking things like these. It both gives people information on who'll be with them and doesn't intrude on people who want to play it in their own
