END EDIT
Alright everyone, so here we go... again. I can't even find some topics of constructive thought here anymore, just bashing and complaining.
So I'll do the same thing as I did with 1.0.1.2 a few weeks ago. I'll talk about what was good, what wasn't good, and what should have been done instead. That should hopefully open up some conversation.
The Good
The fixes to the ship and class fixes were a very welcomed change. I've actually witnessed two of those issues in game, and I'm glad to see them fixed, also with the change to the game's loot system, we don't need "caves" anymore, so that's a good fix as well, finally the changes to the strikes and the raid fixes for the Templar fight are much welcomed. I want to say that 70% of the raid matches I have been in have had at least 2 people who wanted to just camp on the rock during the fight. Honestly, it's pointless to do that, I'd much rather face the Templar normally since it's a fun fight.
Now, I'm not a PvP player, and I don't enjoy it at all, so I won't place direction in terms of that, but the changes to the Shotgun to remove the Shotgun fest from it is a welcomed fix, as well as removing the quick swap issues, finally the changes to the perks to make the fixes are also welcomed, we don't want perks doing things that they shouldn't, so that gets a plus from me.
The Bad
Ok, so this is where some heat will come in the thread, so if you've got nothing but negativity to put here, please stay out of my thread or face the report button, I'm not going to deal with that here. So, I'm just going to get this clear point out right now so you guys can see it: Why is it, that the game's smallest player-base (PvP) seems to have the steering direction on the game? Honestly, it seems like every day I get on these forums, you're (PvP People) bitching about something else because you lost in a match, or someone got something better than you in the end, even though they didn't necessarily do as much, and Bungie is apparently only giving you what you want here. This is NOT a PvP led game! Now I can tell you right now, that this is not something that a game developer should be doing at all, they should be asking the entire community what they think needs to be done, hold a vote, and then act based on the vote.
When you're removing the power from a weapon intended to be awarded for completing the hardest activities in the game, you should expect to have some power from it, I don't care if you don't have it and have died many times from it. That only shows that you are too lazy to get out of the stupid crucible, and do something else for a change. So what if people can currently "exploit" the mechanics of the boss, that will be fixed in the future, and honestly, I'm sure Bungie has a pretty easy way of telling who did the boss the right way, and who did not. Personally, I'm looking forward to attempting to Hard Raid sometime this week, and spending a few hours at Atheon getting it done, it's going to be fun and exciting, and I really am hoping to get the Mythoclast from it, but I don't believe for one minute, that someone who want's to complain about dying at the hands of that weapon in a stupid PvP match, should have the overall control of how this game works, same thing with the Pocket Infinity. You've essentially removed the whole "Exotic" feeling from that weapon with your complaining.
What should have been done
Now I'm all for balance in a video game, don't get me wrong. Some games out there seem to reward only certain players because they can "Exploit" other aiming mechanics and that's just wrong, others simply like to ignore that some guns are too powerful, but honestly, in an MMO style game, you can't do this. There will always be guns that are simply meant to be powerful and strong in these games to ensure you're properly equipped to tackle the tough activities. In MMO's PvP will never truly be 100% balanced because a level 1 should never have the advantage over a level 30, it just doesn't work like that, you might as well just nerf the players at that point, and nobody would want to play the game then.
I think Bungie needs to calm down with the nerfs for a minute here, and actually get their developers involved in these forums to actually take the time and listen to what the majority of the non-bitching PvP players actually want for the game, speak to people who have constructive things to offer, and offer us your input on the manner. We want a game that's enjoyable for everyone, so actually do that. If you don't want the OP Mythoclast in the Crucible, just nerf it there and leave it alone everywhere else, I still want a gun to take down those pesky Fanatics in the Templar fight, and honestly, I'm looking forward to getting that gun to disintegrate those things at will.
I hope this thread finds the developers, and that you can at least have an attitude adjustment there, because a lot of the players are starting to become a little disappointed in your "direction" for the game.

Edited by Kedge Drahl: 10/18/2014 2:06:15 AMYour comment in paragraph 2, want to know the root cause? It,s all around you. Frustrated people trying to get their point across. No acknowledgement, no responsibility. Just the company apologist touting the new 'events' which appear to be retreaded old events . people complain, silence. People report problems, silence. The only sign of anything happening is Activision's falling stock price.
-
You started off strong and mature then faded quickly when you started talking about how PvP players bitch about being killed and things get nerfed because of it. You also admited that you are not a big pvp'er so your observation and opinion is pretty mute. I play all aspects of this game but predominately I PvP. There are plenty aspects of PvP that need serious tweaking and what you are witnessing are those tweaks. If anyone is to blame for your pve nerfs then blame bungie for not seperating PvP from pve. I could care less if the mythoclast could one shot minotaurs in the toe on hard mode because I doubt the AI will complain about the roflstomp fest. But when that OPness bleeds into PvP then there is a issue. Changes made between pve and PvP shouldn't affect each other but again, that's on bungie for not making that division.

Edited by Ulmius: 10/18/2014 1:34:40 AMThe problem with your argument is you are assuming that in this game, pvp has the smallest number of participants and I would venture to guess that's based off other mmorpgs like wow and those types. We as players have no idea how much of the player base does actually use pvp as their main focus for entertainment. I would venture to guess that pvp is the dominant feature that players take part in mainly because of the ease of entrance as opposed to the harsh requirements of finding 2-5 other people to do harder content along with farming mats to level up so you can even attempt the higher levels of pve. Of course, neither of us can truly assume these things because we cannot see the numbers which bungie is the only ones that can. I myself prefer pve over pvp, but even though that's the case, I can take a step back and take a look at the most logical way players interact with this game. With that said, I don't understand why they can't differentiate weapon calculations between pvp and pve and only nerf the pvp aspects.
-
They seem to focus all their attention to pvp I don't understand why they would nerf all these weapons in pve its not like minotaurs are complaining about the weapons.

Edited by Krashly0913: 10/16/2014 4:45:38 PMI agree, PvP is such a small aspect of the game. The nerfs to the guns should ONLY affect the PvP and nowhere else. It's disappointing to the players who have played hours upon hours to upgrade their weapons, only to have them nerfed to the point they aren't even worth it anymore. PvP players should not get the final say. I play PvP for bounties, that's it. I have noticed a drastic change since the update and not in a good way. Changing how certain guns work and changing perks after people went through the grinding to upgrade them is not acceptable.

I'm starting a new discussion with ideas based on what has come out of this topic. You can find that discussion here. If you have any more ideas to share, please bring them up there and be sure to comment on those as well. Thanks!

They should just scrap the crucible all together. We don't need it.

With this latest patch, it's like Bungie don't even play their own games. Speaking long term, the shortsightedness in their decision making is what worries me, and I hope that they are willing to listen to the community intelligently and put some serious and logical thoughts into their game design changes, not just knee-jerk reactions.

Edited by tdannay: 10/15/2014 11:40:14 PMI see a lot of posts here, including this one, talking about "the community" in a way that implicitly refers to the people who post here on this forum. I think, in order to be reasonable, we need to get away from this fallacy that the group of people who post on this forum are in any way representative of the Destiny-playing community as a whole. At the risk of sounding overly academic, this forum is what James Madison would have called a "minority faction," defined as "a number of citizens...who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community". Most people who play Destiny are not like the people who post here, and in fact would never even consider the possibility of posting here. Many of them are not aware that this forum exists. You can call them "casuals" in a diminutive way if you want, though some of you would more open-mindedly call them "adults with families and careers." Like it or not, there are lots of these people and they are no less important than you. They also don't have a Vex Mythoclast yet and most of them never will. For the sake of the game's lifespan, Bungie would be wise to maintain a broader perspective that includes those people, even if it means sometimes the most dedicated fans like all of you don't quite get your way.
-
So, out of all of the possible things to happen to me, I actually beat the hard raid, and surprise surprise, I got the mythoclast. Now that I actually "have" the gun and have used it, I can completely justify all of my prior points. This gun is essentially the same, if not slightly weaker than some of my legendary auto rifles in term of power against the enemies, so it does feel that the nerf did a "bit" too much there, perhaps only a 15% - 20% nerf was needed to balance things out a bit.
-
They need to BUFF the pokey infinity because it's the worse fusion rifle now. And they'd are call it a exotic? -BLAM! Out of here
-
So IMO Activision is calling the shots here. They have the FPS market and their formula has been working for them. So it makes perfect sense to me being a long time COD fan (until Ghosts...what a train wreck). But when you mix mmo and pvp and RPG and FPS player groups NO ONE is going to be 100% happy. FPS players hate the grind. Mmo players hate pvp. ETC. Everyone hates the story. That we can agree on. I think you are wrong about the kill rate increase on the Templar platforms. To me this sad to the gamer 'F off for finding something we did not'. And there's quite a bit of oversight if you really didn't find this.

Edited by weaver: 10/15/2014 8:06:03 PMAs someone who does not play as part of a fire team, only playing solo unless I am part of a strike, I find that even the slightest changes to mechanics take some time to adjust to. You make long term plans about how you are going to level up your weapons. The armor you buy is geared toward the main weapon and secondary that you use. Same goes for ascendant materials you spend on upgrades. This represents time. Hours of work. I had not yet spent the time to full upgrade the Pocket Infinity so I did not lose the Ascendant Energy. But I did spend the Ascendant Energy on upgrading my Shadow Price which no longer is the best weapon for a dozen charging Hive Thralls. I put both in my vault just in case there is a reversal. What is apparent here is that you cannot make long term decisions on how to level your equipment unless you have an abundance of materials you can be willing to bet on a piece of equipment which may or may not be useless in the future. A conservative approach is to find a good enough weapon which does not sparkle too much and level it. Like Legendary hand cannons or legendary machine guns. But exotics all have a huge target on them and they are like buying a risky stock, there is a chance you will get burned in the end.

Well.. If Bungie actually put more than a few lousy million into their game, and added more QUALITY content, without stealing ideas from other games.. people might not complain as much. Yeah, theres always going to be those complainers. But there are real players that like playing the game and slightly enjoy it, but just can't get over the incompleteness of it.
-
Dear Bungie: I believed in you! The art in your game and the mission content while repetitive has great potential, making for a fun game. Regrettably your staff and development team are failing at there job and succeeding at making Destiny worse with every update they release. Ask any non-staff player and they will tell you that the game reached it's greatest highest in playability as well as over all enjoyment on it's release, following up through until the first update. Your starting damage multipliers, player/npc health, as well as weapons settings were great. Currently your developer team has decided that there is not enough skill among players or so they say. With each update damage nurfing and health increases for npc's has become a common trend. Begging the question what do they think skill actually is? If you think skill is grinding away for hours on npc's who seem to continuously eat your bullets, you are mistaken. Players would much rather have a target rich environment to which they can do a lot of damage to a lot of people having a lot of fun acting like the legends you so eagerly promised us. But there is no skill, it's just a large display of power, your development team would say. I am sorry if you can't understand the skill involved in that, World of Warcraft does and look at their fan base. Open your development teams eyes before it's too late, because when new games start coming out for the new consoles, you will lose your fan base completely. The betrayed friend, LordShadowFlame

Edited by Atraira: 10/15/2014 9:10:46 PMI'm pretty sure "from a developer's perspective" would imply that you yourself are a developer. Which, after reading about a third of your post, you are very clearly not. Do you honestly think that whining on forums is how a developer allows the direction of their game to be "steered"? Seriously? Do you not think that they perhaps have mountains of internally collected stats and data that they pour over? I thought from the title and first paragraph or so that this may actually be an excellent post. But nope, it's just another post bitching about the Mythoclast without any data to back it up. Don't hide this crap behind a thin layer of legitimacy. Don't decry topics complaining about things with no research and then write a novel doing exactly that. It's pure hypocritical garbage, looking to do nothing more than preach to the choir. http://i.imgur.com/NxTMpqi.jpg

Yes! bungie needs to seriously ask the community and be apart of discussions on nerf/buffs

Bungie should let us design our own levels. I'm not kidding. Give us a user made level 'area'. Give us simplified pvp level design tools with whatever World back drop we choose. It could be as simple as glorified 3d maze building. Just dumb down the process a bit from the concept you (Bungie) released with Marathon Infinity. It could be done in game with a simple minecraft like block building method, then we hit a submit button and it gets rendered and put in play (even if the render took 24 hours that would be fine). We could then play the maps and rate the maps and choose them from lists based on popularity. We would love it. Over time you would get to see what we really want in pvp level design. The game would get to ride the popularity of the best made user levels. And could sell us DLCs that (in addition to the other added content) added new props or buildings or whatever to the build it yourself levels. All the people building maps would buy the DLCs - All the people that wanted to play the newest USER made pvp maps would also buy them. You could even (down the line after refining the process) allow user made story and quest levels. Bungie could focus on what it does best (smooth game mechanics) and it's own user base would be filling the world with playable content. It would help sales not hurt them because the best levels would add to the game and the worst ones would get bad rating and no one would play them. Bungie did this with Marathin Infinity and then released a box edition including the best 200 user made levels and they were frikken AWESOME. WIN WIN

I think weapons should remain unchanged for PvE. Balance them for pvp to make it fair, sure, but some guns should just be better than others. Also, about pvp balance, what were your thoughts regarding a recent post about the iron banner by deej, where there was a statement that a level 7 could defeat a level 27? Also consider that the person being interviewed implied that it was designed to be that way. Thanks.
-
Edited by mrwazzabi: 10/15/2014 2:58:08 AMWhat they should have done was make mythoclast a pve only gun and disabled in pvp zones. Done! Some mmos do this. Disabling certain items/powers/weapons that would break a pvp match, but leave it untouched for pve.
-
Edited by SilentOption: 10/16/2014 7:14:23 PMIt would make so much sense to make PVP like SWTOR. Everyone is equal in stats, but they gain stat boosts from the armor they wear. So while a lvl 20 could technically go toe to toe with a level 30, the level 30 has an advantage because of the armor he wears and it makes him harder to beat. Also, his/her abilities are ranked up more so being a higher level has its perks yet a level 20 in PvP can still have fun. "How do you beat a higher level then?" You may ask. Well there is this little thing that people like to call teamwork. Problem solved.
-
The point everyone seems to be missing is that Vex Mythoclast is STILL THE BEST PRIMARY WEAPON in this game outclassing everything else.
-
I don't like the kill zone stuff with the Templar. They should have left it at the relic being booted back to the center if the holder left the area. There were actually some legitimate strategies that didn't involve camping the rock, but that still involved having some players taking out oracles from the ledges, leaving everyone else on mook/templar slaying. It wasn't just cheese out on those ledges. I also don't like the idea of PvP dominating balance decisions. I think that balance is important in PvE too, since it benefits build diversity, but something being balanced in PvE won't make it balanced in PvP. I wish they'd paired each weapon with a PvP multiplier that existed exclusively to boost or decrease damage from weapons in PvP. The feel wouldn't change, but they could balance effectiveness in one game mode without messing with another. Instead, if they want balance in PvP, they have to mess up PvE.
-
And what games have you developed? Where are your credentials. All I'm seeing here is a wall of text talking up the changes nobody is griping about while sliding in some whining about the vex mythoclast. Too lazy to get out of crucible and do something else? Why would a weapon that comes from a raid, something that has literally nothing to do with pvp in anyway be allowed to ruin the enjoyment of an entire facet of he game. Where were our primary rocket launchers ( an example of something equally stupid) for deciding to go into crucible on a whim. "We earned this through hard work and sheer determination" about 1% of the player base might have but certainly not the 40000 other idiots who went in and kicked Atheon off a cliff on someone else's timer. Gun was broken, horrendously overpowered, was brought into line with other exotica ( it still wrecks shit) deal with it and shut the -blam!- up you posing wannabe
