So here is my thought.
Since there is NO form of clan communication in game, other than when you are in a fire-team, how about using the postmaster as a working post office?
The image is a graphic I created in order to show a mock-up of the idea.
If a clan member wanted to put out a message to the ENTIRE clan, just a few members, or just those on your friends list, they could just ...
• go to the Postmaster
• create a message
• select the recipients from a list type
<><><> • Friends List
<><><> • Clan Members
<><><> • or just choose ALL
• select the appropriate icon for the topic of the discussion
• and hit SEND
• the postmaster delivers the message
When the player/clan member comes to the tower and checks in with the Postmaster, they could review their message(s).
We are all aware how it is done now.
Option 1)
• Go to the FORUMS area for your clan
• Create a post
• Pray the the members actually READ it
• Hope they respond
Option 2)
• Try to contact them in game via fire team (extraordinarily difficult for a large clan)
• Beat head in to wall after being unable to reach more then 2-5 people at any given point in the day.
• Repeat
Also ... the PS3 only allows for 100 in your friends list so using the built-in messaging system could be problematic.
Here is why ...
• Say you are Praiano from Gran Turismo fame. (He does car tunes like nobody's business. )
• Because of that, his friends list is maxed.
• Now, say he buys Destiny and joins a clan.
• He can not use his PS3 message system to contact them because his friends list is full of GT players.
• That is why it needs to be in-game.
Guardians ... what say you!?

It would also be great to see the ability to send items as gifts to each other. Mabey as rewards for help even glimmer exchange. At your own risk of course, there will always be exploiters out there but the honest players will help weed these out with complaints.

Wonderful idea

Best idea I've heard in a while. Matchmaking lounge is up in the best idea area to
-
A great idea that can improve the game without changing how the whole game operates. I'm so on board with this!

Anyone from Bungie going to comment on this?

Put this in feedback

This could be a small way a trading. Like trading items to your clan members and friends.
-
Well forums for clans are exactly meant for broadcasting messages to your clan. And if your clan members aren't reading threads from clan leaders, then your clan isn't involved. If they don't read it via forums, what makes you think they'd read it via postmaster?
-
And the post office employee will fwd a msg to the shader MILF and she'll give out a temp. color to the clan for the strike/raid.
-
Or broom bot could be the clan manager... I like the idea of using an NPC to communicate in game to other players. Why not one of the computer bots in the vanguard room? That would make sense right? Great idea though. Consider using pre-built messages like: "Your fellow clan member your name here needs assistance with you pick this from a list." Message displays your class and level with option to inspect right on the message! List of options: Nightfall, VoG norm/hard, Weekly Strike level XX, Daily Heroics lev XX, patrols on planet, public events... Etc. Instead of post master, if it was a different NPC, that NPC would have it's own green icon in the tower that would show on the director. This way, players can distinguish between clan messages and regular post master stuff without going to the tower. This would all be further improved if we could do this from the ship, in orbit, and NOT wasting 10 minutes going to the tower.

I'm here!

Really cool idea. I don't know how hard it would be for Bungie to implement something like this however I'm all for it.

Why wasnt this invented in the first place..

GREAT IDEA!!!!!!

This is a very good point, would like to see this, and I think it would he very helpful for larger clans.

I've always found it really confusing that Bungie promoted this as an MMO enhanced shooter, but then left out every social aspect of an MMO. For those of us not in an active clan, it's next to impossible to get a Vault of Glass or Nightfall team. In any other MMO, we'd just go to a social area and pop a general message stating what we want to do and we'd get a team in no time. In Destiny, I've got to individually message anyone of the adequate level one at a time using PSN and wait for a response, if I even get one.

I think that's awesome! Way to use the noggin!

why not just have a pop up window in the start screen.... for typing/ reading

Edited by NikiTheGeek: 10/15/2014 11:50:21 PMSo much easier on Xbox to use smartglass app to message members though. You can send message to multiple members. I use my cell phone Xbox One app while in game on planet without having to go to tower or pulling up home screen... or waiting for that tedious typing feature for console message typing you would have to do to type up message. Then again I check in to the Destiny forum app too while in orbit or load screens. lol
