I just played a game of control Iron Banner and the end of the game the scores where Opposition : 17035 and my team : 15320.
My team had a total of 12 captures, 60 kills and 20 assists, their team had 4 captures, 86 kills and 31 assists. They won the game but all they did was camp base A and occasionally nab one base a couple of times. In a game of control which is all about capturing bases how can they win purely by getting kills? We had two bases the entire -blam!-ing game and they just camped with snipers and yet they still won. How is this an objective based game if kills alone could win it? This means that it is theoretically possible to win any game type by simply getting enough kills to outweigh the oppositions objective based points.
It actually means in some cases when you are unable to capture a base that you are far better off to camp it out and wait for them to come to you, especially on a map that allows a sniper to overwatch two bases from one spot.

Because your whole team acted as bullet sponges. Great way to imitate the bosses in the PVE portion of the game! In all the game my team has won we play defense on control and yes I am/was IB rank 3. Most teams just keep coming forward so even if your team is just holding 1 point it is easy to out point the other team because they will keep coming forward to take that point. I hope this helps and I am not the best player with my tremors through my hands! Get a point you know your team can hold and sit back and watch the other team come forward and collect your bullets!

Yes we got pounded because we where outclassed by 3 snipers on their team who didn't do any capturing just camped out the top corner and got kills. My point is that why should I bother capturing bases in future games when I can just rack up kills by camping out in a chokepoint? This is a really poorly designed mode and to be honest the level itself shouldn't have a vantage point that can overwatch two bases. The other side of the map doesn't have anywhere that can do this so it is unbalanced. The game is called control which implies that controlling the base is the main focus but if kills impact the score so heavily the definition or name should be changed. This is pretty much a team deathmatch with world events that act as score multipliers. I have yet to see a real objective game mode in Destiny as they all pretty much revolve around kills rather than any team based objective.

Holding the bases increases your reward for each kill ( no base = 100 all bases = 300) +/- depending on additional medals earned like "I see you" or multi-kill. So in effect controlling more bases does provide a distinct advantage but only if you are able to kill with said bonuses over the other teams inferior bonus.

Your team's points are based off of how many zones you control when you get a kill. You guys just got pounded.

I've been actually wondering why it's called Control. The game mode clearly has nothing to do with controlling anything. That's why I gave up on Iron Banner. Having all bases means nothing as well. Bungie is too focused trying to give the opposition an equal chance at coming back and in return, negates why there is a need for bases.
