Something that everyone I talk to agrees on yet no one seems to point out online, is the downright terrible decision to make raid gear the only path to level thirty. Perhaps you've already heard this before and no longer care, but I challenge you to. this is a flaw that needs to be fixed, for several reason.
1. It nullifies ALL FIVE FACTIONS.
Are you really telling me that every single one of those legendary armories the five factions have were stepping stones? You bust your bottom to get all that gear, only to be left once again at the mercy of the RNG?
2. we BUSTED OUT BOTTOMS to get that gear!
I didn't spend literal days in the crucible getting all those marks for you to tell me that I have to give them up if I want to be level thirty! That is unacceptable! In fact it's downright disheartening. We didn't work that hard to have it surmounted by a couple hour long raid.
3. Save a shader and one gear piece, everyone would look the same.
looking the same as everyone else should NEVER be the goal in an RPG, that's ridiculous. So we get one exotic armor, and a shader to look unique. otherwise we have literally the same armor as everyone else. Honestly how did that slip through the cracks during development??
4. What about future raids?
assuming you get different raid gear in future DLC raids, that means you have practically nullified one or more perks on your fancy VOG raid gear. Now, if the level cap goes up, fine, that makes sense. But if it does not, you now have armor with useless perks.
I'm not saying raid gear should be on par with faction armor, not at all. It SHOULD be better. just in different ways, perhaps granting lesser bonuses to all three attributes, instead of a specialized two like most legendary armors, or make the raid armor require one less defense upgrade to reach max stats, making it easier to upgrade than faction armor. There are ways to make raid armor special. But giving it exclusive access to level 30 was a terrible decision. I've built an entire play style around my armor, one that won't work with raid armor. In fact, seeing as there's basically only one armor, MOST peoples play styles don't fit. How is that ok? leave a comment stating you're own thoughts. Hopefully they will understand the problem with this decision, and fix it soon.
EDIT:
Thank you for your feedback. It seems that some like the raid system, but others are frustrated by the "exclusive" nature of the raid armor. So, allow me to reign in my thoughts to this: customization.
Perhaps the biggest downside of the raid armor is the fact that there's only one set. So "your" guardian, as bungie advertised, is really just the same guardian as evey one else minus one equipment slot and a shader. Bungie advertised that the character was YOUR guardian, that you were unique, but if you want to be the best, bungie wont allow you to be unique. This is my biggest complaint. perhaps this won't change until the DLC comes out, and if so, oh well, I still believe they need to fix this.
-
Well, you do have a Class Item too.. They can also make you stand out. Also.. How many "casual" gamers do you think will beat the Raid to full Armour completion? It's a very small percentage. You're just seeing a few of them due to the level-matchmaking. Not to say that you're wrong, but being max level doesn't give you anything anyway.
-
Agree completely
-
You should get 'Light Shards' from raids.. then attach it to any armour you want to improve its light.
-
Yep exactly I hate the fact that you cant customize so I chose my own path,my hunter and warlock looks different then the others because I want to make them look badass not become like the rest.
-
Agreed. Forcing people to find a team of 6 and spend hours on an OP prolonged "level" for the slight *chance* of receiving 1 of 3 pieces of armor required to reach level 30 is a load of CRAP (assuming you have 1 exotic). As if shards aren't hard enough to come across...
-
There really is no reason to be 30 unless you are raiding hard mode? Why else do you need the extra level. Go ahead il wait
-
Edited by Space Magic: 10/16/2014 4:13:51 PMSimple solution: Weir whatever armor you want. Armor doesn't have an effect on you in the crucible or in PvE. I got my hunter to level 20 without using any subclass upgrades and never swapping out of my original gear. Check out my hunter if you.dont believe me.

Edited by highskoolpecoach: 10/16/2014 8:48:24 PMAll of those venders have better gear and weapons for pvp. Your light level does not make u better In A PvP match so if your a heavy PvP player Then the faction gear is for you.
-
Then you need to look up other mmo's everything is a stepping stone, that is the point. Would you rather have nothing to work for until December? Come on man, you have plenty of time to hit level 30. The game isn't supposed to be easy. You don't need to be 30 for the crucible. So have fun, the level 30 is most likely going to be for thoughs who raid like myself. Before I hit 30 yesterday, I would do just fine in pvp at 26-29 level.
-
Level 29 and 30 are essentially just at-a-glance advertising saying "I can handle hard mode raiding". Beyond that the only reason to reach 30 is completionism. Which by that notion indicates you will do everything there is to do to it's fullest extent. Obtain and upgrade every weapon, max every sub class, reach at least level 3 in every faction, and defeat the raid on its hardest difficulty. For completionists reaching level 30 is what they will have done via raiding anyhow. Personally I don't mind it as the sole route to 30. However, I enjoy working on various gear sets (putting together a Pulse rifle gear set for Bad Juju presently), and the fact I cannot do this with level 30 gear discourages me from being motivated to obtain it. Furthermore since level 30 is not required for any mode of play and I can handle hard mode raids just as well as any level 30 as a level 29, I'm not given an incentive to reach level 30. It sincerely is little more than a number to chase. The results of obtaining that number are looking aesthetically like every other level 30 of my class (except for what color i can be), no control over the perks I'll have, and no added game functionality to give that level a purpose (there's no level 30 required content). It's just not a very attractive proposition. I raid for the guns, and if/when I get raid armor I'll likely just let it sit in the vault if doesn't fit together for a build to work on.
-
Dlc will come out, adding a minimal amount of items (willing to bet 1 set per class)...well this game was alright while it lasted, but I learned my lesson, dont preorder or expect anything, and never ever buy into the hype
-
They could add a new material that you could only receive for breaking down raid gear (or receive upon completion). Add an additional upgrade slot to legendary armor, and make it so that you have to use the aforementioned material in order to upgrade your armor to 30. This way you can keep the armor you like the most, but you still have to beat the raid, possibly multiple times, in order to achieve the rank.
-
Beat the hardest content in the game to get the best gear the game has to offer lol. Don't wanna run the raid? You have no reason to be lvl 30 unless you're in the hard mode raid. PvP has no advantages anyway.
-
Well if this was a proper RPG your armour wouldn't be coupled to your level in any way. If I play the game for ages I want to level up. If you add RNG to the game I shouldn't have to get lucky or grind for days to get levels. You armour should effect your stats, gun accuracy, recoil, movement speed, that sort of stuff and then add extras like boosting cool downs or improving your shield strength/recharge rate. Choosing the best load out is a good reason to keep coming back and grinding. Maxing out at level 29 because you don't do Raids is a piss poor way of rewarding your player base.
-
It's amazing to see all these excellent ideas as I read thread after thread This is why most devs put out a "real" beta months before launch. So they can gather our suggestions and put out a good game. They were to stubborn and arrogant. They didn't want our opinions because it would of interfered with their selfish vision. Well, their vision SUCKS. That is all

Edited by GRIP: 10/16/2014 3:50:03 PMI will say BUMP. And... The game economy needs a fix in a major way as well. The good news is that both what you propose and what I notice about fixing economy can be resolved at the same time. Why do monsters drop items that increase your GLIMMER drops...and you're sitting on the maximum amount of GLIMMER anyway, with no real outlets other than gear and weapon upgrades, and at that there's only one set that will get you to 30 and limited customization options. Make the Factions relevant. Allow rep to be gained via donations. Create faction specific bounties that award customization opportunities. Give greater incentives for gaining reputation and base them on the end-game desires of your players. I did NOT buy this game to spend 3 hours of play time farming spirit bloom because I got two pieces of armor and two weapons that need it. Meanwhile I constantly sit on maxed out GLIMMER. This fix should be obvious. Just don't make it to easy that we lose momentum enjoying the incremental improvements that keep us playing. Example. Allow Rank 2 with different factions to give you the ability to craft upgrade materials with either a cooldown or a daily maximum. Rank 3, 4, etc extend and increase the amount you can craft. Or example #2: Allow Rank 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. To give care packages with random items / upgrade materials ( like engram concept) and increase the goods received based upon reputation rank. Throw in a Faction Only item, like shader or class item that is only obtainable here and make it hard to get, but increase probability with higher reputation rank. And finally, give us the opportunity to spend every penny...25,000 GLIMMER for a once-a-week customizable shader that evaporates if we unequip it. I would gladly spend every ounce of my GLIMMER and grind out more for upgrades on items, in order to have my own customizable colors.
-
It really shouldn't and you are the lucky few that I like the way you've worded your post and I don't thing raids should be the only way to thirty you should get gear from engram's (very rare though) that can get you to thirty and the same in crucible.
-
Whilst I agree with you on this, I do think that this will change but probably not for some time. Guess we have to remember this game is a mix of FPS, RPG and MMO and there are going to be issues surrounding all three gaming types for some time.

Im a level 29 now and i dont equip all my raid gear because of that
-
I agree and disagree. I've played plenty of MMO's in the past decade, from the betas for WoW and Guild Wars, and that whole era to more recent stuff such as Guild Wars 2, ESO, Wildstar, etc. I understand the problem first hand. It sucks that the ONLY way to hit level 30 is to do the raid multiple times. While I find the raid fun, it's still annoying to do, even with my good group of friends. There's no real individuality with my Titan save for skill level and shaders because of multiple things. Between everyone cheating Atheon and getting the VM, Xur handing out exotic weapons every week (yes, I use them, but I'd rather exotic weapon engrams than a flat out weapon), and raid armor being the only way to hit 30, it's just playing into my overall theory. We're all playing characters that were raised from the dead by Ghosts to fight for and heal the Traveler. We are becoming it's personal zombie army. More on that in another post lol. Honestly, I'd have no problem at all if we had a style system. Guild Wars 2 and DCUO come to mind. It doesn't matter what armor we're wearing, we can make our gear look however we want based on styles we've collected. If I want to have full raid gear style, sweet. I personally am starting to love how it looks on my Warlock and Titan, haven't gotten my Hunter in there yet, though. It also means that Playstation exclusive armor won't be a total waste. It sucks, though, because I didn't even pay attention to what the armor was called, because it seemed to not be legendary gear. I can only see this being a problem in PvP, where I look at what armor certain people are wearing before rushing in. Take for instance, the Helm of Saint-14 for Titans. I love it, but in PvP, if I see another Titan with it, I'm not going to rush into his bubble. Then again, I wouldn't do that anyway, but that's also another post. I'm just saying there has got to be more variety. I play the game very actively. I won't use the term hardcore, apparently it offends some people. Others are just casuals, and that's all fine, I guess. Not everyone will be doing the raid. Wait, nevermind, ever since that Atheon glitch, magically people realized they can form parties and just cheese their way to beating him. Also, another post.
-
Yes it should.
-
Agree. Bungie talked ALOT about NOT having only 1 option or 1 correct answer. They don't want us ALL thinking the only weapon to use in crucible is the Suros AR or Mythoclast and want us to want to use pistols, scout, pulse , etc. So please don't make only one set of Gear be the correct choice. I hope we have more choices that allow us to get to level 30. Gosh it's the worst feeling to spot another badass looking warlock at the tower with an amazing trench coat and I walk over and inspect his gear in a jealous rage and then I'm shocked to discover it's a blue coat with zero light stat. I feel like I'd wear a baby puke green coat that said "loser noob" on the back if it had +200 light stat .......and I'd bet everyone else would too. That's NOT cool.
-
I agree but Bungie wants us to create parties!
-
I like the raid system, but I hate how we'll all have the same exotic/raid combos in the end. There should be more options for exotics and raid gear.
-
Done raid 7+ still not one piece of armor from it :/
-
The system would be fine if it wasn't random. Maybe a few different sets of raid gear so we arnt all clones.
