Something that everyone I talk to agrees on yet no one seems to point out online, is the downright terrible decision to make raid gear the only path to level thirty. Perhaps you've already heard this before and no longer care, but I challenge you to. this is a flaw that needs to be fixed, for several reason.
1. It nullifies ALL FIVE FACTIONS.
Are you really telling me that every single one of those legendary armories the five factions have were stepping stones? You bust your bottom to get all that gear, only to be left once again at the mercy of the RNG?
2. we BUSTED OUT BOTTOMS to get that gear!
I didn't spend literal days in the crucible getting all those marks for you to tell me that I have to give them up if I want to be level thirty! That is unacceptable! In fact it's downright disheartening. We didn't work that hard to have it surmounted by a couple hour long raid.
3. Save a shader and one gear piece, everyone would look the same.
looking the same as everyone else should NEVER be the goal in an RPG, that's ridiculous. So we get one exotic armor, and a shader to look unique. otherwise we have literally the same armor as everyone else. Honestly how did that slip through the cracks during development??
4. What about future raids?
assuming you get different raid gear in future DLC raids, that means you have practically nullified one or more perks on your fancy VOG raid gear. Now, if the level cap goes up, fine, that makes sense. But if it does not, you now have armor with useless perks.
I'm not saying raid gear should be on par with faction armor, not at all. It SHOULD be better. just in different ways, perhaps granting lesser bonuses to all three attributes, instead of a specialized two like most legendary armors, or make the raid armor require one less defense upgrade to reach max stats, making it easier to upgrade than faction armor. There are ways to make raid armor special. But giving it exclusive access to level 30 was a terrible decision. I've built an entire play style around my armor, one that won't work with raid armor. In fact, seeing as there's basically only one armor, MOST peoples play styles don't fit. How is that ok? leave a comment stating you're own thoughts. Hopefully they will understand the problem with this decision, and fix it soon.
EDIT:
Thank you for your feedback. It seems that some like the raid system, but others are frustrated by the "exclusive" nature of the raid armor. So, allow me to reign in my thoughts to this: customization.
Perhaps the biggest downside of the raid armor is the fact that there's only one set. So "your" guardian, as bungie advertised, is really just the same guardian as evey one else minus one equipment slot and a shader. Bungie advertised that the character was YOUR guardian, that you were unique, but if you want to be the best, bungie wont allow you to be unique. This is my biggest complaint. perhaps this won't change until the DLC comes out, and if so, oh well, I still believe they need to fix this.

Raid gear should have attributes to help in raids an that's it. there should be ways in pvp and more ways in pve to reach max level and much more variety in faction gear
-
I'm assuming that the level 30 IB gear is rank 5. So if you haven't done IB up to this point ya know good luck hitting rank 5 in one week since even getting to 3 for me was a pain.
-
I agree with you! I purchased the digital deluxe version so I'm stuck with the first two DLCs. If Bungie does not introduce story-mission and strike paths to cap I'll not purchase third DLC.
-
No, pvp gear comes too easily as it is... Pve players shouldn't have to play a broken ass pvp to earn gear "cough cough... Exotic bounties"
-
Considering the raid is the only place being 30 makes any difference, it should only be attainable through the raid. In PvP your level literally means nothing so why would you need to be 30?
-
I would also prefer RAID Marks, so future Raids could bring same marks, so you would be able to buy from a pool of items. maybe the Faction Vendors could also need RaidMarks for specific "faction raid gear" ? (maybe almost same stats but different looks?) http://www.bungie.net/de/Forum/Post/76860176/0/0

I am all for customization. Thats why i have a different set of gear for raiding from pvp. But if you dont raid why do you need or want 30? Nightfall is the current greatest challenge next to the hard raid and 29 is attainable with all faction gear and one exotic, 28 with all faction gear. That gives you 100% damage if you have maxed weapons. What the game needs is an armor customization system, similar to almost any other rpg has

Edited by Ko Raga: 11/12/2014 5:08:49 PMThis thread is still relevant so I'm going to comment on it. I think the biggest problem here is that people are so used to the idea that end game is supposed to start at max level. In Destiny, max level is attained through end game content. I just started playing this game a few days ago and it took me a bit to wrap my head around that concept, especially since the get-to-max-level model has been so dominant in games for so long. After evaluating the system in Destiny, it doesn't bother me that I won't be at max level gear-wise. I can still level the "perks" (not sure what they're actually called) on all my gear as well as my class abilities. And since everything is normalized in PvP anyways (which is what I prefer), those are really the only things that matter. I'm actually really glad that there seems to be a viable model that doesn't focus specifically on reaching a hard level cap. Though I do agree with the idea of customization, even if only for cosmetic purposes.

The whole light system Is like the radiance system in one of the Lord of rings games I don't remember the exact title of the game unfortunately

The real bad thing is... even if you do find a Group thats able and willing to Play the raid every week (which is hard enough) the loot is so random, that 2 of our members did not got ANY armor pieces in 7 attempts - not even one. That is not only extremly frustrating but it is not a good Promotion for the raid as well as - of course - they tell others about that and they not even start for that low chance. Further more, they got only shards and energy which is much easier to get in daily heroics. I´m personally just wait for foots so the loot System is faulty as well. It should be ensured that every time (week) you do a raid you get at LEAST ONE Piece of armor - and one that´s missing and no doubles. One of our clan members got 3 chest pieces, 4 shaders and 2 speeders. So we would like to try the hard one, but following this it will take weeks - months - to get the gear complete (and then it´s only one Variation) If it would be like this (1 Piece a week), it would still take at least 3 weeks to get it complete the normal mode (or 3 + exotic) before starting the hard mode - THAT IS ENOUGH TIME TO SPENT for a normal Person with a second - real - life and DESTINY can´t live from core Gamers alone.

If you could get it from factions you could be 30 in 2 week no problem
-
I believe iron banner armor gets you to lvl 30 but you have to be rank 5 to get it...
-
Unless raid matchmaking

There is a method to the madness of the legendaries not getting you to 30--prolong a game that's severely lacking content. As you said, you spent days (over multiple weeks because of the marks cap) grinding out faction points to buy gear. You spent at least a day or two farming materials. You log in every day to play the same story missions on 28 to get two shards (unless you need shards then you get energy). After all those dozens--if not hundreds--of hours you have to repeat the entire process again on the raid gear. It's a system--as is the RNG--designed to force the player to spend at least an hour or two in-game every day. They get away with it because most people don't feel they've completed a game until they hit max level. If you could hit 30 in a week or two then no one would play the game (the servers are bare enough after CoD released) so this keeps people "interested" until the pseudo-expansion pack comes out.

Quit crying. You're either good enough to beat VOG to get gear or be stuck at a low 29 forever? That's the point of the overall grind?
-
Agreed! I sadly can't even play the vault without lagging out ever few minutes.

I struggle to find time to do the raid over and over and over to hopefully be able to receive the RNG dropped raid armor required to get me to level 30. Across my 3 guardians I have put in over 177 hours into your game and I’m yet to be able to reach max level and I am starting to get frustrated with the fact that we only have 1 possible way to achieve max level. To compound this frustration I see you are going to be increasing the light level to 32 with the upcoming DLC . . . what are you doing to assist your dedicated players to achieve level 30 without doing the raid? Having a week long PvP event is not the answer. I have a couple of suggestions that could work, but am open to feedback from my fellow Destiny community members. 1) You update the vendors in the tower to stock another level of gear, that is on par with raid gear, that we can buy for vanguard/crucible marks. Considering we are capped at 100 marks per faction per week, I am sure you can tweak the pricing for raid ger to make it a couple of weeks of game play to be able to buy these items. 2) You enable us to buy raid gear from Xur on a weekly basis for strange coins. This limits access to players to be able to purchase this gear to once per week and if its via strange coins we will be restricted to the amount of gear we can buy, based on the Weekly event being the only guaranteed way of getting 9 coins. 3) Let us buy a “light level upgrade” from the speaker for motes of light . . . akin with the sparrow upgrade available from Xur. To get to level 29 we need to have legendary gear, this upgrade will let us upgrade the light level to that of raid gear for say 20 odd motes of light. As I am sure most are aware motes of light are gained by leveling up once you have past level 20, so 20 motes is a whole lot of leveling up. Just a suggestion to help the community get to level 30 and stay engaged with the game.

Agreed especially due to the raid being glitchy. I say shut down the raid and hardfix not hotpatch it
-
AGREED
-
Raid armor is for what? Raiding. The second raid starts at what? Level 28. Factions give armor that allows level what? 29. It is not the end all be all. It is just a staple man.
-
I cant even get a team together to play VoG and since the only way I am going to be able to get to 30 at this point is Iron Banner, BRING THE PAIN!!!!
-
Agree. Especially with your last paragraph. To be the highest lvl you HAVE to wear the raid set gear and look exactly the same and wear the same stuff as everyone else. Pretty lame.
-
But didn't someone hit lvl 30 before the raid was even released
-
This seems like a great idea!
-
I agree with you, and add the fact that for some players (like me), it would be very difficult to gather 6 people in the same time, to do the raid, at least once. It would be impossible to do the raid several times, like the game requires it to reach the level 30
-
Very well said, Sr. Yippee ki-yay BUMP!
