Any chance The Stranger could be the gardener? SHE wasnt born from light/is not a guardian, comes from the far future (where the darkness could be trying to reclaim the garden) and says she cannot directly help you find the garden (it could mean her existance would cease if she helped you in this period, or if she did that then her entire future would be rewritten with unknown consequences/set events in motion that are unpredictable).

See one hing I'm surprised at is how long the darkness is going to take to come back. I mean if it's quoted as returning in the First game how long does it Take if humanity or an Exo at least survives to be able to come back into the past to help save the future. And it doesn't seem like she's from a few weeks months or even a couple of years in the future but maybe a decade or more due to her gun having parts that don't even exist yet and she has comm gear more advanced that what the guardians currently have and those are only the two things we know of who knows what else she brought with her.
