Not sure if this has been posted before, and I don't mean to suggest that I have any problem with the way Patrol is now (that's my meat and potatoes), but I was thinking the mode would be a lot more engaging if there were "hidden" stories offered occasionally by the beacons.
I'm just imagining a setup where, less often than the "go kill this target" bounties, Guardians would get a bounty that would take them through a few steps, to an eventual mini-boss and a (greater) possibility of a Legendary drop or materials. They'd basically play out like normal stories, so when a Guardian enters a spawning-restricted area, they move to a separate instance of the map for the purposes of completing the bounty. Afterward, or after dropping the objective, they'd be moved back to the main map instance with everyone else. These bounties would have more, clearer lore tidbits than normal ones and would reward 50 - 100 rep, depending on the challenge of the particular bounty. This would serve as another--possibly more compelling--incentive to Patrol.
Then again, there's probably a lot of folks that hate Patrol and would QQ because they'd view it as "inaccessible content" or something.
EDIT: Fun to note that the Destiny Grammar Police, like the everyday kind, sure are apt at administering correction despite a preponderance of evidence.
EDIT 2: Also fun to watch "likes" for this post fluctuate as people decide whether their abhorrence of poor grammar outweighs their support for a solid developmental idea (not tooting my own horn, a lot of folks seem to like the direction of my suggestion).

As much as the grammar mistake was unfortunate it is generating a lot of commentary, so maybe Bungie will actually take a look at your suggestions, which I agree something needs to be done to fix the beacons. On another note, there needs to be patrols of enemies too. Right now I know where they all hang out all day, every day, without fail...
-
I agree with you, but let's talk about the pressing issue. Making your grammar more "gooder." Just playin' around.
-
Green = Easy Patrols (current) Blue = Level 20 Patrols Red = Fireteam Patrols Too easy to actually work, I know. The_Rynoceros on PSN, because nothing says "Thanks" like a $20 Mr Bungie.
-
It seems that Bungie stretched it to the limit just to give us this meager amount of content. Although your idea is a good one IMO, it will never be implemented.

Edited by SwiftBMF: 10/15/2014 8:26:40 AMFunner is that even a word, guess it is now,not read your post yet but I will I saw the first comment wasnt a tiraid of I hate you & your wrong so ill presume you have something to say. Word of the day = Funner Cool post Im all for new things & this would be a good reason to to missions I dont do any outside of kill things for srcrap & kill to 100% unless their are no others I dont rwally like going outside of my farming area, got a nice spot picked out on mars near thing big ring you go through. Yep cool post.
-
And more Rep for basic patrol missions, like 25 or just 20? I don't have a lot of time to keep grinding..
-
You make valid points but more fun* please never use funner again
-
I agree, more patrol stuff
-
Not a bad idea. What about patrols that randomly start a questline when finished? This way the regular patrols are still there and required, but with a chance at a quest with nice rewards and rep boost? Or maybe some patrols that actually trigger a public event when completed?
-
I like the idea.
-
I like the idea and all but I feel like even that would become repetitive after a while unless there is a large variety.
-
6 player Patrol. That's it. For me anyway.
-
Yes, yes, YES
-
After a certain level cap allow patrol pvp among the factions.
-
I stopped reading at "more funner" Sorry

More funner indeed

"More funner"

I had that today. Completely normal patrol on Earth when I decided to enter the crashed fallen ship. Once inside I managed to wander my way into the lockdown zone in Devils Layer. Thought it was cool that I could find a back door into that location. After dispatching everyone I carried onto the walker and finished him. Now for the interesting part I was wander back through the industrial building complex and stumbled onto a one man (possibly woman) war against the fallen. Joining the impromptu firefight we spent 10+ minutes fight every kind of fallen had no idea a non scripted encounter could be so big. We must have taken out 50 fallen between us.
-
..so basically you suggest, change patrol mission in 'not strike bounties' which already exist. don't get me wrong! I do like concept of your idea! but this game extremely lack in content and such change would make those 'not strike' assassin bounties even more meaningless and useless.
-
There should be a lot more NPC's too, especially if you're trying to get 100 precision kills in an area where a few other people are trying to do the same or similar missions. Sure you can load up a story mission but sometimes it's nice to do it in a casual patrol run. A greater variety of missions would be great as well. A greater variety in the public events would be awesome as well. Earth has quite a few, but we would definitely benefit from some new ideas for public events.

I am sick of collecting scout missions that tell me to go to the opposite end of the map only to find another that tells me to come all the way back again! More variety is needed

MORE FUNNER??? Dat English tho
-
Funner Lol
-
Yeah, I like this idea a lot. It would make patrols a little less mind numbingly grindy and mo' bettah.
-
More fun?
-
I actually really like this idea. Patrols do need something to make them a bit more fun.
