If someone who doesn't play PvP can do it then I'm sure you can manage.
I went into the Crucible just to do that bounty with a Void sniper Rifle (only void weapon I had at the time) and 20 control games later I had that part of the bounty complete.
Work a bit for it and I'm sure you'll get there
