What are the odds of decoding an exotic engram from Xur and getting a random piece of equipment for your equipped class?
33%
It even tells you that when you buy it. I'm sick of people bitching about not getting an engram decoded to something they can use. You gambled. You lost. Deal with it and stop being a crybaby.
As to the trading. It is a bad idea. It completely negates the whole point of grinding for better gear. Yes I know it's randomised, but a lot of it isn't. For those that get legendary gear from engrams, how often have you had a legendary engram drop? Me personally. Probably three or four times in my whole forty hours of play. You got an exotic from an engram you bought from Xur? You had to work for those strange coins to get it in the first place.
Trading opens the door to people not willing to work for their gear. It's a cheap feature that the game can do without.

Re: trading: Not if you limit it to item color, legendary for legendary.

I have a Warlock Class and have earned legendary armor for the other two classes. If there was a trading system, I could benefit from it. But I don't want one anyway. Why? Because then I could trade those legendaries for something I need and have no reason to play the game anymore. It's pointless

So what your really saying is there is no point to playing the game, since gear is only needed to play the game, and if there's no point to play the game without getting gear, there's just no point to even bother.

"Because then I could trade those legendaries for something I need and have no reason to play the game anymore. It's pointless" A rephrase of your point is that the only reason to play is to grind for gear. I think one of the author's points is that this is a problem. Maybe trading isn't the answer, but it is an option worth discussing.

Grinding for better gear is the same exact formula used in just about every MMO game. Once you reach a certain point, this is what the gameplay is supposed to be. Grind for better gear, then do endgame raids. If you don't like it, then this isn't the kind of game for you. Don't play it. But don't try to change the formula just because you aren't used to it and don't like it.

Edited by Freud: 10/7/2014 1:13:27 AMI have played MMOs before. But if we're already resorting to throwing assumptions around, maybe I should level the same accusation at you. Every MMO I've played has allowed trading, as well as featured an in-game economy via some form of auction house. I'm actually inclined to think that using classic MMOs as a comparison point strengthens the pro-trading position!

Except you can trade and sell in almost every MMO so what's the problem with adding it to Destiny? I think the major obstacle for Bungie is that really only is about getting legendary and exotic gear. There isn't really much else to the game. So you add trading and the game's content is reduced significantly. This isn't a defense for no trading, it's a sad realization of what the game actually is.

Right, this is exactly the problem. Only reason to play is to grind..not to explore, or collect, or customize, or socialize in fun ways. And this is coming from someone who doesn't mind grinding to a degree. But this game is ridiculous.

Agreed, when I can't enjoy certain parts of the game because I need to grind to get the gear I need for it, the game is no longer fun, it's a chore. It's not why we play games, we go to work to work, and we play games to have fun. Grinding for hours is not fun, it's tiring and a cheap way to extend the life of your game, of give the illusion that it has more depth than it actually does.
