As soon as I played destiny I noticed it seemed quite familiar to Halo. Here is my theory:
After the master Chief destroyed the Didact, Earth lives in peace, slowly expanding its horizons. One day UNSC picked up an unfamiliar slip space rupture. They tracked this rupture to mars. Here they found the Traveler. The traveler was really a forunner machine, designed to track down reclaimers, and teach them the ways of the forerunners. Guardians being warrior servants, Speakers being Life workers and cryptarchs(?) builders. over time ghosts began to guide these guardians and teach them the ways of the forrunners. Then the darkness came. The darkness could be the precursors. Some of you may not know who the precursors are. The precursors created all beings, and designed humanity to be their rightful heir. The forunners denied this right and took it for themselves. The forunners fought the precursors to extinction. However, the precursors created the flood, and forced the flood to wipe out the galaxy. Thus the forunners created the halos and fired them. The precursors hid themselves inside protective barriers which could only be destroyed by a blast from the halo array as seen in Greg Bears Forunner saga. Anyways, you know what happens next. As I was saying, the darkness, or the presursors, created more beings, and this time they weren’t parasitic. Instead they were to create a challenge for humanity in order to see if the humans could truly secure their place as guardians of the universe. This would also explain why not all of the humans were killed, and also why the traveler was killed. If the darkness really had all of Venus created into a vex planet then the darkness would surely be able to have a little extra help to finish off earth.
Just thought this was an interesting concept. What do you see wrong with it? Let me know!

I've thought something similar. bungie might not have the halo rights to connect the storylines outright, but Microsoft didn't have the rights to advertise destiny outright neither

No shut up 2 different universes

Doesn't destiny take place roughly year 2500?
