Dear Bungie,
We know you guys got a lot of frak recently and bad rep, even among your own community. Granted, a lot of things in this game are badly designed. But, I believe that you want to make things better. Even if it goes step by step. Things like the weapon correction coming soon and the fix of the Cryptarch system are small but welcome steps, and it goes to show that you, in fact, liste to the community (even if you never answer).
So let´s discuss trading openly and politely, like gentlemen.
I don´t know if trading was taken away by command of Activision. Obviously, if that was the case, you wouldn´t say it outloud or have much power over the matter, so I´ll let it be. But let´s assume for a second that you really thought that the game would be better off without it.
Bungie, let me put this in the simplest way possible:
Implement trading, because EVERYONE is going to win and be happier with the game. Especially you guys, because our happiness will give you a better reputation and gives us incentives to stay in the game.
1) It will make players less frustrated with the RNG loot/decoding system
Last time that Xur came around, I got an exotic helmet engram, thinking that, since I have a Warlock and a Titan, I had good chances of getting something I could actually use. And what are the odds: I got the Mask of the Third Man, a Hunter piece. I have it saved on my bank/vault for now, in case something changes, but my face when that helmet popped out…
There are a lot of Hunter users out there who wanted this exact helmet. Now my only chances to find a use for it would be to a) create a Hunter (can´t be bothered to bring another char to 20, don´t have the time) or b) to dismantle it and get shards (which would be a pity for such a unique and beautiful helmet).
But what if I could give it away? What if a Hunter had got the, for example, Helm of Inmost Light, and we could trade it and both get what we want? And the same goes for some Sapphire Wire that I have: there´s no use that I can make out of it, but others could.
EDIT: so as some have suggested.... yeah, bad example, because having exotics going around like candy would have been a bad idea. But I also got a legendary helmet for Warlocks and legendary gloves for Hunters. Items with that rarity could still be traded, although with some kind of temporal or numerical limitation to avoid breaking the balance.
2) It will make the Tower actually be “social”, and give players new ways to interact
Right now we just go to the Tower to get rewards, bounties, and then head back to orbit. But there´s nothing truly SOCIAL that we can do there, except play football and dance. If trading was implemented, players would gather there to trade, make deals, etc. The Tower will actually become a meeting spot, instead of just being a transitional point between instance and instance.
In MMO´s, in-game economies that allow players to trade materials between one another using different “currencies” (instead of a bidirectional model between player and game with one single economy, like the model we have now) are a mechanic that allow people to socialize and even form new bonds as players. In other games I played, I would end up having “regular traders” with which I talked sometimes, teamed up to play, etc.
3) Players will now have a reason to explore the vast maps you have created.
Out of boredom I once went to old Russia to explore unseen routes. And man, you guys have created BEAUTIFUL maps and worlds. Outstanding. But that´s the thing: most players don’t have any valid reason to go anywhere except the usual routes “A to B and C”. Yes, there are patrol missions, but they are also set on restricted routes. However, stuff like Spirit Bloom, Relic Iron, Spin Metal and Helium Filaments are pretty much all over the place, and so are chests.
With trading, some people would devote some time to farm these R&D materials, exploring the world in the meantime and finding some of the little hidden areas and gems out there.
4) It will provide us with a legitimate shortcut to avoid some of the grind and repetition
Yes, we are meant to climb our way to the top via hard work. But when you finish an instance and all you get is a blue engram, how are you meant to progress? Doing it five more times? If your answer is “yes, that´s how it´s meant to be”, then Bungie, please be aware that people can get tired of repetition, and it is usually a main reason for many people to quit games.
With trading, if I need that final Ascendant Shard to upgrade my armor, instead of repeating a strike or raid that I have already done that day, I can check my vault and see if I can offer something to a fellow player. And if I don´t, perhaps I can gather some stuff that he/she needs. But as of now, our only option is to repeat stuff over and over and zzzZZZZZzzz….
--------------------------
Now, if you think trading is not a good idea, here´s three arguments that I can picture: two of them that you have already stated, and one that could be the real reason:
- We want players to earn their gear, and feel like each piece was the outcome of a great victory!
Which would be a great argument, if the game didn´t have a RNG loot system that sometimes even seems to penalize performing great, as seen on this video or as many of us have seen when the worst guy in our Crucible team gets a Legendary. And hey, I was that guy once. Now I got better, but I was “that guy”. And I was happy about it, but it felt incredibly unfair EVEN TO ME.
If that is your main reason, then change the loot system, because right now the actual in-game effort, performance and teamwork mean very little when it´s time to collect rewards. Or why did you think that people exploited The Cave?
- We want to avoid having gold spammers!
Then how about this: restrict trading to ITEMS only, and no buying stuff from one another through Glimmer. And if you want to make it even more secure, enable a code system that lets the game know what items were bought from vendors, and which ones came from loot, and restrict the trade only to items that were collected (like Spinmetal, Blooms, etc) or drops.
This would prevent people with higher faction levels to simply buy stuff from vendors and use that for trade against players that haven´t stacked that many rep. And taking Glimmer out of the picture for trading is also a good idea, because the Glimmer yield can be artificially increase by use of Ether Seeds, Black Wax Idols etc. and therefore give an edge to players that use them and have them, over those who don´t.
Bungie, if this is the main reason, there are ways to prevent malpractices in trading. Sure, the “rotten apples” are crafty and could find ways but, as we say in Spain, right now “the righteous are being punished because of the sinners”. And this feels bad, man.
- We want people to grind over and over for stuff, spending more time in our game.
Hey, you won´t say it out loud but THIS could be another reason for you guys. In that case, and as I said before, don´t underestimate your own players. People can get very tired of repetition and limitation. And a lot of players including myself are already wearing tired of the little variation of the game, and it´s not even month 2 of a game that allegedly has a 10-year plan.
In short, Bungie… I believe in the phrase that says “better late than never”. Some things have gone wrong, but I believe you guys have the power and willingness to make some of them right again.
As a closing line, there´s something that you have to consider. These next 2 months are going to be crucial for you, because that is how much time there´s left until the first expansion comes out. Whatever happens to the game until that, in terms of right vs wrong changes, will determine how many people actually stick around and give the upcoming content a chance. If people get bored to death before that, chances are that they will leave the game altogether and never even consider getting those expansions. And every player wants trade to be implemented. Give us this, and you make us happy. Give us this, and you give us freedom. Keep it away… and what we get is boredom and lack of interest.
To everyone that has made it this far: sorry if there are mistakes or incoherent lines, English is not my native tongue and it can get hard to express some stuff at times.

Why stop at trading OP? Why not just ask for free lvl 30s, all the gear you could ever want, and whatever shirt deej is wearing as a trophie? Trading will kill this game. Now stop and kill some Psions. They need a good killin.

No there should never be trading. Ever. It would make all the players who actually played for a long time and Earning there stuff feel like a waste. Then some turd kid can get the game in Xmas, and have his little buddy instantly make the new kid a 28 with all legendary and exotic. Dumb idea.

The lack of matchmaking, trading and other basic features exist to slow people down because Destiny is just a small piece of a game. I don't mean the beginning of some saga, I mean literally a fraction of an actual game. Gotta remember, Bungie pretty much cashed in their reputation with Destiny so don't hold your breath.

Well put

Edited by razzmatazz115: 10/7/2014 11:23:32 AMSo, you're Spanish?
-
hm, i got a full setup of legendary armor for both other classes before i had it form my titan ...
-
Simple answer is No. I've seen too many games ruined because of the economy, I don't want Destiny to be the same.
-
Couldn't you just grind for your own loot instead of getting loot for trading? And this will irritate people - lots of them. Anyone who has decent gear, or wants to get it them self will be enraged by the fact that people go handing out legendary gear for commons because of back ally deals made in real life and things of that nature. And what about the people who can't get anyone to trade with them? They'll be pretty pissed too
-
I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message
-
I dont want be trade in game. Better to fix the loot system that you only get items for the class you already play.
-
Actually my concern with trading is hackers. If trading is enabled its an invitation for them to go around other player accounts and grab the hard earned items that we prize so much. Sure, the RNG is a pain.. I also got screwed by Xur Exotic Helmet Engram. I play Warlock, and was looking for an helmet.. got a cool one for the Hunter. I can't really put myself to level a 2nd character right now, but I will have the item when I find the heart to go through that process again. In the meantime I even got a legendary armor for the Hunter from an Engram.
-
Trading should be with your clan members only. Would give people more of a reason to join a clan, especially since it's a hassel to join and there's no real reason for clans atm (aside from a few trophies). This avoids any type of auction house as well.
-
I recon they should implement something that makes that every month ur account can trade 1 exotic, 1 legendary, 2 rares, 3 uncommons and 3 whites. This would mean that people that have a exotic hunter helmet they they don't want and they have a friend who has a exotic warlock chest piece you want, you can swap with them, but then that's it for a month. But I think bungie shouldn't allow swapping off items you find on planets eg spin metal.
-
Sure, I'd like to trade some hadronic essence (or whatever the stuff coming from warlock armor is called) for weapon parts (something I never seem to have enough of...) But I've seen to many games ruined by trading, clever people always find ways to exploit such systems, so in general I'm not opposed to the idea, but I don't believe it's possible without ruining the game for a lot of players
-
Was against trading but I agree with what you said. I got two exotic helmets, 1 for titan 1 for hunter, and my main is a warlock.
-
If you could trade I could absolutely guarantee that everyone would have almost every Exotic in that exists in game, easily every single Legendary set that they wished to get and they would positively ALL be 100% upgraded. What now?
-
To keep it fair only items of the same quality can be traded. This means you can only trade a legendary for another legendary but not for a common or exotic, for that you need an exotic or common and so on.
-
Iam against a trading system in general. BUT! Some sort of trading between the fireteam AFTER a strike, raid, Weekly or Nightfall should be available. Especially in VoG. Someone get a chestpiece, but he already has one and his friend got the boots which he needs so instead of a simple trade between friends they are both stuck with a part they already have... This can be and IS very frustrating...
-
There should just be a mailing system. So then we can just give stuff to friends or random people. I have two Thorns and would love to give one to my friend who loves hand cannons. I personally can't stand them, I prefer scout rifles.
-
Having trading for at least materials would be nice (along with something to do with my 1100+ class material). I've had several times with friends where one of us had an abundance of one that another needed to upgrade their weapon or armor and it would be nice to not have everyone split up or be forced to go do patrols on certain planets because one person. On the other hand I've gotten 7 exotic bounties, I abandoned one because I didn't want to go through Thorn or Invective again, and after I get my Pocket Infinity I see no reason to do any of them again (aside from the one for super good advice because it's easy) unless you really want to dismantle one for ascendant energy. Which I can get from buying crucible or vanguard weapons making the whole bounty seem like a waste of time. And I can see how it doesn't seem right to be able to give away those weapons. Yet I don't really need 3 legendary scout rifles so why not let me give/trade one for something that would be more useful to me like materials, shards, glimmer, another weapon, etc.
-
Well said.
-
Wonderfully stated, OP.
-
People who don't support trading: People who haven't played borderlands and realized how great their trading system is. (Except for the duplication glitch that gearbox never seems interested in fixing) people aren't just gonna give away Legendaries trust me. In borderlands sometimes you needed to throw in 3-4 Legendaries for 1 gun and sometimes throw in some money with the trade too. Think about what you would have to trade to get a Vex Mythoclaster, probably would have to trade all your exotics just for that one gun. I'm telling you, people who haven't played borderlands is thinking people are just gonna trade like that. Chances are if there's a gun you REAALLLY want it's because it's good, and if it's really good then that person may not want to trade it but he will if you give him a kick ass deal.
-
not bad but then again it would make the game easier
-
As someone who's played Runescape and a few other MMO's in my time, the trading system would fall on its head simply because there isn't enough rarity in the game to establish a proper economy of any kind. There are already so many exotics everywhere to potentially trade, and currency with which it is already very easy to simply buy exotics. In a typical MMO, there are so many activities you just can't ever do, so you need to trade to get good gear, and in game money actually means something so its possible to go and earn enough money to buy these good items and that's an achievement in itself. In Destiny, items aren't worth anything, vanguard marks and strange coins can kit you out in almost the best gear within 2 weeks, and raid gear would not be hard to come by at all with how easy it is to get exotics to trade for it. Trading would only serve to flood the market and ruin the game.

In my opinion i'd say that theres pros and cons to having a trading system in Destiny. Pros: -give up equipment you dont need -get something you DO need -give to noobs (if you arent hearless lol) Cons (prepare yourself): -beggers -spammers -super unbalancing -hacks -dupes -scammers etc. so far thats what i can think of considering that those who have played MMOs can relate to what i say up on the pros and cons of a trading system in Destiny. i may be missing some cons in there but its what ive experienced in MMOs, plus if they decide to do it then id say just do it once a week or month to trade with a limit of 2-3 players especially with the same color trade it would make it kinda fair but i could be wrong. This is just how i feel about it if they decide to put in a trading system. agree or disagree doesnt matter we're all obliged to our opinions Laterz, Stay Twisted
