It has been said a few time, well more than a few times, but I need to get this off my chest to feel more at peace about this issue. Where is the story in this game? If the purpose of the game is to write your own legend to create your Destiny, a necessary component to writing something is a story. This game has none to speak of. In my delving into the issue of how the same studio who wrote the immensely immersive universe that is Halo could produce such a scant and barebones story arc that is Destiny, I discovered the rumor about the paired down space epic that became the shell of a game I have the misfortune of suffering though. I want to like this game. The game play is so good, and there are hints of a truly epic story, but it is frustratingly hidden from me. I need motivation, I need to know why I am fighting. Why we are being attacked. Why this sword needs to be captured or why this shrine needs to be destroyed? What effect does that have on my struggle, how does it help the people I fight to protect and demoralize my enemies? I don't need the big picture. I understand that there is a 10 year plan for this game. However, that is not an excuse to hide valuable lore and story information that guide the players actions. The game has the feeling that things were cut out, which makes me a believer of the conspiracy theories that have been floating around that the story was severely drilled down due to concerns of it being too complex by the up and ups overseeing the game. If that is true, I would hope bungie would try to convince whomever made this horrible decision that the story is essential to games like this otherwise you end up with another Titanfall that is nothing but pvp. If the original story exists somewhere, it should be patched back into the game. Even if that would be a hard thing to do, I believe it is something owed to us as purchasers of something that was billed as one of the most expansive games of all time. This game will continue to be nothing but a mindless grind fest until its story is repaired. And if I wanted that, I would still be doing my WoW dailies.
